Hi there, looking for guidance. We are looking to move to the Southwold area in Suffolk this summer from Australia. (We have dual nationality)
My questions are what is it like for families (our kid is 8), after school activities (martial arts, kids yoga, soccer etc),
Also does anyone have kids at or have any experience of St Felix school please.
Grateful for all advice

St Felix is a good school, not very dynamic. Best private school locally is Woodbridge School and they have fantastic extra curricular activities, sports and music etc. Also there are loads of kids activity clubs around the county as well. Suffolk is a beautiful friendly place, you will love it!

I know Suffolk well - try and live near Woodbridge or Framlingham. Do you know Southwold?
St Felix has international students as well as a local intake.

thank you. I hadn't heard of Woodbridge School so will have a look. When you say St Felix isn't very dynamic, do you mean progressive or lack of activities? I liked the look of the small classes and large open spaces. We are in a school in Bondi and have 26 kids with 1 teacher...... my kid is dyslexic and they appear to have a learning support unit which appealed as well.
Great to hear there are fantastic extra curricular activities in the area

thank you Poppyred25. I know Southwold but none of the surrounding areas that well.

We are happy to look anywhere in the area its just that my folks are in Southwold and one of the aims of moving back was to spend time with them. I think Woodbridge would be approx. 45 mins drive (which on occasions would seem to near :) ......
I am concerned that Southwold will be very transient and my son wont get to make many friends, hence the after school activities.

Definitely agree with looking at Woodbridge. The private school is excellent. A real feeling of community and belonging.

Agree with Woodbridge School :) I love very close to Southwold and it’s a lovely town, very popular for school age children to go out with their friends as there is a pier with an arcade and restaurants. It is definitely a family area, but also a very affluent area

Thank you 2ellenor2, that makes me feel better knowing there is a local community for school aged kids in Southwold. It’s worrying taking my son away from his friends here but know once he’s made a few friends everything will be ok. We are looking at Reydon as well.

Hi @Becstar49 - have just stumbled across your post. Did you make the move, and where did you end up. I am looking to make a move from Essex to Suffolk and have been drawn towards Southwold also, we have viewed St Felix school but don't know anyone that has first hand experience.

Becstar49 · 07/01/2025 19:35

Hi @En1983 we did make the move, can’t believe it was 5 years ago.
We moved to Reydon & my son is at St Felix. Is the school perfect no, but are we happy yes.
We have a new Headmaster who is fantastic & we are seeing positive changes to the curriculum & the school overall & pupil numbers increasing.
happy as well.
What age is your kid/kids? Happy to talk offline 😎

My son is almost 5.
Would love to hear more about your move and the school….. unsure if you can DM on here?

Becstar49 · 08/01/2025 19:17

@En1983 My son loved Clough the prep school @ St Felix, I always thought it was like a warm hug. Jade Wong the Headmistress of Bronte & Clough is awesome, my son was so unhappy at school in Bondi & she listened to him & he blossomed.
More than happy to share more, just not sure how 🤷‍♀️

@Becstar49 thank you, that’s good to know. Really just after some local knowledge on all things involved with moving generally, and help in deciding on best choice of schools. I did attempt to message you directly with my number, but unsure if it worked - IT is not my strong point.
