How can we improve DD's memory/info retention?

Recently had parents' evening and mostly good feedback, the only concern is DD's memory/retention of information/instructions. She's 6, almost 7, in year 2.

Some examples:

One day they were practising time, DD was "on fire" and got them all right. Next day, same activity and the teacher just gets a blank look from DD as if it is all brand new to her.

She learns her weekly spellings and always gets them right, but in 2 weeks time if she needs to use any of them in a sentence she can't remember them.

She still spells days of the weeks and months wrong despite those being her spellings in year 1 and again in year 2, and she has to write them daily (except Saturday and Sunday obvs!).

Is there anything we can do to help? We help her learn her spellings, get her to read to us most days and practise easy sums probably once a week.

Thanks!

You can try using multi sensory techniques for example sand, play dough, separating words into sounds/syllables. Also reducing the amount of spellings/times tables that she needs to learn. So that you can work on overlearning the information.

Talking to the SENCO about how they are supporting your daughter in school and just be aware that this could be an indication of dyslexia.

The oldest 2 children I look after are like that, they can get something in class but then the next day it's gone. They have memory issues and slow processing speed, they are Dyslexic. Not saying your daughter is, just keep an eye out for it. However, we just keep doing different memory games, in the hope that it helps!

Play memory games with her - pairs (with cards) , remembering things on a tray etc

If she has some sort of issues, you need to figure out what's the problem.
Otherwise, repetition until it becomes the long term memory? Did she learn to spell days of the week/months after practising every day?
Telling time, you can practice anytime, you only need the clock/watch and ask her what time it is as often as you like. If repetition isn't working, there may be a problem.

Memory is a weird thing. My ds can remember something really difficult without an effort. But he sometimes can't remember what was his dinner last night.
