One son, year 2 (6 yr old) will probably be starting a new state school in April/May. (We haven't moved yet) I'm aware of the fact there'd have to be a space available but considering this changes all the time, for now I'd just like to know overall opinions from people with first hand experience and kids in the schools. Does anyone have any insight into the state schools in this area? (Thames Ditton, surbiton, Hinchley Wood, Esher)

I've read different lists and reports etc and they often have conflicting info which makes it so tricky.

What I'd really like to know is where the teachers and overall ethos is kind and supportive. Which schools offer extra support when necessary? I could get extra tutoring if necessary but I want any special learning needs at least acknowledged and treated kindly. Where will he enjoy being and hopefully, with any luck learn along the way! I think he's possibly dyslexic or certainly struggles and is 100% 'behind' in all 3Rs!

So happy for any feedback on any state schools!!

The SENCo at Long Ditton St Mary’s is brilliant.

Thank you very much for that info :) have you had first hand experience there? I'll bear that one in mind. Being right in between so many of those places, that one could end up being our closest, or one of.

Yes, personal experience there, we’ve been very happy.

PS - I realised your son would be going into the infants for a short while and Long Ditton Infants is a lovely little school too. Pretty much all the children go to the juniors round the corner afterwards.
