Hi All.

we recently moved to the UK. we live in Milton Keynes.

My son is 7 year and he is in year 3. He can read books of his age but he has problems with Grammar.

Can someone advise me on how to improve his Grammar skills?

I am also thinking of sending him for tuition like kumon or explore learning.

What is the best way to bring my son up to speed on his Grammar?

Thanks,
Bob

What kind of thing are you meaning, as many parents say "grammar" when they mean "punctuation" or "not using dialect words"?
And is your family language English/did he speak it before you moved to the UK.

This site is great.

www.khanacademy.org/humanities/grammar (free, but US site)

Also this site is great for repetition to get it, and follows NC.

uk.ixl.com/ela/year-3 (Paid site, but can practice 10 questions a day for free.)

If you mean the size of his vocabulary then reading is the best place to start. The more variety of the type of texts the better. Ask your school for a recommended reading It’s proven that the more a child reads the better their vocabulary and writing becomes. During key stage 2 there is a massive push on SPAG (spelling punctuation and grammar) and looking in-depth at identifying such things as parentheses and different types in conjunctions.

You could go through some bond books together. Look at Kahn academy and just get him to do a bit of writing every day and help him correct his mistakes. Make it something fun - buy a journal or have him create his own story book and write a little each evening.
