Play based learning

Was at a course today where the focus was on play based learning in infant classes. Heard lots of guest speakers, policies and workshops. Everyone had their own version of "play" and how it was done to complete free flow 9-3 play approach to teacher time leading to free flow and another approach was stations moving round all areas (numeracy table, literacy table etc).

I'm just curious how people do it in their schools? I would say my school is a mix of teacher time and then stations with a more structured play in the afternoons instead of free flow but would love to give free flow a go.

If you are full free flow play how do parents respond? Do they question it? How is homework done? If you are a mix do you do strict literacy/ numeracy with a programme (jolly phonics etc)? Do you have your own version of play across infant department/the school?

I love the idea of it but I'm a bit skeptic about what happens after infants...does anyone have an approach they run right through the school?

Genuinely interested to find out what others do!

Should also ask if you are a parent and your child is doing a play based approach in school how do you find it?

Were you consulted? Do you have input? Do you think it makes a difference to your child?

Again genuinely interested in the whole approach from all perspectives!
