Hi
I wanted to find out what Kensington Prep is like as we are looking at next year. How has the new head been so far? My friend’s daughter got in this year and said at school tour most people she met, mentioned it was just an option and not their first choice which she found strange as she thought it was hard to get into and anyone who did would be super excited.

It's very hard to get into. Over 300 applications for 40 places. Parents say the new head is lovely too.

The new head is great so far, very enthusiastic and approachable. Maybe what happened is that it is only the undecided who go to the offer holders morning, whoever had it as first choice just accepted. I remember when we received the KPS offer, I accepted that same afternoon :-).

Good point Sanam2010

What is the parent community like? Also do the girls feel the pressure?

I was wondering about Ken Prep's use of technology in class, specifically do the girls complete all work on tablets (e.g. iPads), rather than pen and paper? I know this is the trend for some schools like Falkner House that require all assignments to be done on iPads, but I was hoping Ken Prep would be more of a middle ground, at least in the early years, and encourage traditional pen and paper work as well. (I love technology--I'm an engineer! But I think "old school" approaches have value too.) Could any current Ken Prep parents comment? Thank you.

Hi all, I am a KP parents. I really like the new head, she has lots of energy and is very approachable/easy to talk to.

In relation to use of technology, my daughter is in Y2 and she started to use Ipad this year I think. They learn how to use power point to make presentation / books. But I would say 95% of their work is still pen/paper, although they tend to explain lots through play, using jugs/ bottle for capacity/ numicon etc

Don t hesitate if you have any questions :D

agree with lolakath, another kps parent here. I think the new Head maybe slightly less pro-tech than the previous, but either way, the majority of work is either pencil / paper, or group work, hands on experimental learning, science experiments, art, music, etc.. I doubt the overall tech time in english / maths would be more than 20% max. I'd be happy if they had zero ipad time, but they do a lot of writing, cursive writing from Reception onwards, so the traditional skills are definitely still taught. The new Head seems really enthusiastic and involved, we are all very happy with her so far.
