Hi there,

My daughter got a place at both City of London for Girls and Wimbledon High School.
I would be grateful if you could share pros and cons for any/ both of these schools. Your feedback will help us to make the decision.

Many thanks in advance.

Geographically, they could scarcely be further apart in London! Where do you live? You should choose the school that is closer to where you live. They are both terrific schools with high achieving pupils - just look at yesterday's Evening Standard league tables for academic results!

Many thanks for ur reply. Will look at evening standard.
We are in south Croydon so travel wise there would be about 10 to 15mins difference.
We are thinking in terms of infrastructure, alumni and stats around pupil joining Russel group universities, etc. That is life beyond school life as we would not like to change our school going forward.

How old is your D?
I am assuming this for 7+ as 11+ results aren’t out yet.
And at that age - commuting to/from the City I think is too much.

City’s a great school, but it’s very urban. Imaging my child spending breaks and most of the time indoors was not a winning proposition.
Wimbledon seems to provide as good an education and better quality of life for the kids.

The other issue you’ll have to think about is friendships & social lives of the kids. A friend who lives in W London - with a daughter in City said that it got increasingly more difficult at a teenage stage.
Girls come from all parts of London. So when they start ‘hanging out’ together and having parties that take over an hour to get to:from at nights - it’s a little difficult.

So - from where you are - i’d go to Wimbledon. It’s a great school, and impressive while still human HM.

Agreed.
Croydon to City would be extremely difficult.
And she's only 7; if you decide that WHS is not right for her, she can move at 11.

Thank you so much. Totally agree that the commute might be difficult and that is what is inclining us towards WHS.

WHS is the more sensible choice of the two but be prepared that almost everyone else will come from SW18/19/20 until 11. I’ve known Croydon families leave Wimbledon schools because the commute was too arduous especially in the mornings, so do make sure you practice it at rush hour and know what it involves before you make your final selection.
