Hi. Look at the Ofsted website and key in your postcode. Wallace Fields is probably the most academic and sought after, Stamford Green is lovely and had an excellent report, the Vale is increasingly sought after, St Josephs (need to know the Pope) has a great reputation and St Martins is good too. It really depends upon where you live, but most of the infant/primary/junior schools in Epsom are friendly and perform well.

Evening! West Ewell Infants has just had an Outstanding Ofstead report. Both of my DD's have been there - the teachers are lovely and the start to their education was second to none. also Auriol for Juniors is fab. Hope this helps x

Hi, I am leaving London and moving to Epsom with two young children. I have not bought a house yet and want to buy near the best primary schools. Can someone suggest the best place to buy for schools? For example, what schools serve the newer estates such as Clarendon Park and Manor Park and are those schools within walking distance. There is a new development at Noble Park but are there any schools near there? I would be grateful for any suggestions on where to pick house and schools.

The good Epsom schools are all oversubscribed! Please do not fall for the sales patter given by the agents of the new developments that you will get into the schools - it is a lie!!! Southfields Primary is good and has a specific policy of admitting children from the Claredon and Livingstone Park estates. We live in the area and before the estates (Parklands et al) were developed we were allocated a good school across town as the schools nearby were all oversubscribed

Thank you very much!! I guessed they would be oversubscribed. However, would like to know which are the best anyway? Also, can you walk to Southields from these estates? I love the idea of the out of town estates as I live in central London and want to escape the built up areas I live in. I worry about transport and schools and in particular, getting to the schools etc. If I bought in the new Noble Park estate at West Park hospital, would I be doomed to finding no schools who will admit the children?

You could walk to Southfields from Parklands, but Noble Park - there are cycling paths but it is a longish way and roads are pretty busy and cars travel fast

The best school in Epsom (OFSTED) is Wallace Fields Infant and unless you live 740m from the school gate there is no chance (as per 2011 admissions).

The issue surrounding schools is one that needs to be addressed. Southfields admission policy takes the new estates into account (another class was added and admission procedures takes estate children into consideration) but that was before Noble Park and Parkview/Parkland developments. Surrey CC/LEA are going to have to look at this as the agents are not being entirely truthful when selling these developments.

I know that you didn't ask this but Rosebery (girls)and Glynn's (boys)are the best secondaries. They are excellent and you need to live in catchment to get a place.

Wallace fields is indeed considered the excellent school it is not however wonderful if your child has any additional learning needs. we moved our child from there 5 years ago we were the 3rd set of parents in 3 years making this option. Had we remained in the area wewould have applied for ewell Grove for our yongest the junior school was amazing and I have friends with children in it that still love it.. given the choice I would give the infant school a wide berth they have the results in my opinion only because they squeeze out the non achievers.

I should say we lived within 500 yards of this precious school.

it was fine for our oldest but having since had experiences of 2 other infant primary schools I do not rate WF at all the pastoral care is not good and that is what they need at that age more than anything

The surrey cc website has useful info - there's a tool where you can put in the postcode of a property and it'll show you the schools by distance. You can then compare this to the recent catchment distances / admissions criteria in the 2010 admissions area of the site.

londondee · 07/01/2012 00:18

Having recently moved into the area, I found this discussion useful. I can't seem to fimd the tool you referred to above DOZER, where you can compare recent admissions? Could you let me knwo (if you are still monitoring this thread!) Thanks!
