Gifts for classmates prep school

My son has started in kindergarten in prep school this year and we seem to be invited to class birthday parties every other weekend. The area is fairly wealthy (in the south east) and I'm unsure whether I'm spending an appropriate amount on birthday presents for these parties.

How much would you say is usual to spend? I don't want to seem tight or like I'm showing off by spending too much. Maybe I'm just overthinking it all!

We go for between £5-10, I think this is appropriate for their age group, why bother spending more? Realistically you don’t know if they will like it, they will get 20odd presents from other kids at the party of the same ilke.... so why go crazy?

£5. Go to Sainsbury’s when they have a toy sale on and pick up appropriate stuff for £5 or less. Put it to one side and just dip into the box for every party.

We spend up to £10 too - try to pick something related to the child's interests if we can.

Although DS isn't always very helpful on this front. Conversation this morning:

Me: What kind of things does X like?
DA: He likes naughty things because he is naughty.

We usually do between £5 and £10 on a normal friend. £15ish on their best friend.

Mine is also at a prep in the south and I think previous responses of £5-£10 is perfect. If it's a kid you know something about you could give a specific gift but usually for whole class parties it's just a generic gift from the Sainsbury's toy section.
