She took back the one she had brought home by mistake (too big), and i tell her to aske her teacher to check everyone elses sweatshirts.

Picked her up today and teacher says, they checked but can't find dd's but for me to feel free to either have the one dd took home by mistake, or get one i preffered from the lost property box.

Anyone elses school do this ??

I did take the bigger one in the end as all of the others were either even bigger or too small, but i felt wrong in doing so.

I do this as a TA once in a while.

Things have a habit of disappearing. At the end of the day if a parent is annoyed/spitting feathers about the missing item then I say take this (unnamed) one but bring it in every day to see if it was a genuine mistake that your one was taken or someone claims it.

I would never offer a named one though incase THAT disappeared for ever!

As a mum myself, ploughing through lost property for a week-old sweatshirt I've taken an unnamed one on 'loan'. Right or wrong? I don't know.

I take unnamed ones from the lost property box if DSs named ones don't turn up. No Name - Fair Game.

Ahh ok, don't feel so bad now.

As it happens, the one dd2 brought home fits dd1 so she can have that instead of the 2nd one i was going to buy her in sept, and then i will buy dd2 two new ones.

So much has gone missing at my sons nursery a pair of new wellies, (with name in them), his change bag and then reappeared 3 months later after i had brought new clothes and bag, a lightning mcqueen lunch bag with loads of tubs in.

I am so annoyed as i am a single parent and i cant afford new things. The annoying thing about the lunch box was that it came back minus the tubs. There was aboout 6 in there.

Agree with Soupy. Although when I was rooting through the lost prop box, Headteacher came out of her office and asked if she could help me!!!! . I made sure i took an unamed one

Dd's current school gives a couple of warnings about lost property and then at the end of term it's a free-for-all.

Dd lost her cardigan at her previous school and I went in to search for it. There were 10 assorted school sweatshirts in the box - and there were only 29 children in the entire school!

I had a boyfriend in Oz who told me about their school uniform. It was a cardinal offence to not be wearing the hat (bear in mind we are talking subtropics, here!) so it was a constant merry-go-round of you got your own hat lifted, you lifted someone else's who lifted the next boy's etc. The hats cost 40 quid each...

I go straight into school (at the end of lessons) when my dreamy 8 year old comes out minus his jumper but the school don't mind if you take an unnamed one from lost property! They're about 12 quid each.

However, I do think it might be an idea for the teachers to occasionally get every child to check the name tag on the jumper of the child next to them!! And 'adjust' accordingly!
