Very worried at shock resignation of dd's teacher

DD is nearing end of Reception. Her excellent teacher has suddenly announced she is leaving the school. Really worried as the next class up is teacher-less (will have a supply in sept) as THAT teacher is off sick long-term and they can't recruit. this was Ok when teacher X would have been next door but she won't be now!

the HM is a bit of a dragon and we're all wondering if it's a personality clash. or if there is something wrong within the school!

whatever, am v sad. can we demand the reason she is leaving from the head? not sure what we can do! feel v unsettled!

You can ask, but you can't demand to know why she is leaving - it's entirely her business. Maybe she just got another job - most teachers are advised to move every few years, especially at the start of their career - a lot of schools have some older teachers who have been there for years & some younger ones who change fairly frequently.

dinny · 21/06/2007 22:21

she has no job she is moving TO... she says she might do supply (she is young, no older than 30) seems odd

perhaps it must be a clash or something similar

Ask someone on the PTA, sometimes they hear the gossip first.

portonovo · 22/06/2007 10:18

We had a lovely young teacher do exactly this. Said she was having a break and doing supply for a bit. Heard no more for about a year until I was helping out in my son's class and she appeared on a visit to show off her month-old baby!

There isn't always a crisis or conspiracy theory!

morocco · 22/06/2007 10:22

yes, perhaps trying for a baby and not having much luck so wants to give up stressful job? might be a bit upsetting for her to ask for more info if it's some personal crisis

TinyGang · 22/06/2007 10:23

It could be personal - divorce or whatever. Careful not to dig too deep, it could be sensitive. I'd just let it go tbh - expect it'll all come out in the end.

LIZS · 22/06/2007 10:32

Is she local - not covering for us perhaps ? I would imagine the head/governors will have known for a while

LIZS · 22/06/2007 11:39

just seen an ad for a KS2 teacher at yours too .

hippipotami · 22/06/2007 14:00

Whereabouts in Surrey are you? The same thing is happening at our school too - we are in Surrey as well. And the head at our school is a bit of a dragon too and has scared off many a good teacher

Ours is not small - 90 children (3 classes) per year group. But it is only a lower school, so ends after y2.

I would love to know who else sends their dc to this school. But at the same time, that would ruin any MN anonimity wouldn't it...

often just personal reasons - schedule not great, childcare issues, etc i would not necessarily worry

dinny · 23/06/2007 19:28

Hippopotami (where are you ish?) - ours is as junior school that is becoming a primary school year by year, iyswim (LIZS, that is why there is ad for a KS2 - it's a new class)

anyway, I asked the teacher why and she basically confirmed it was because of a clash

Jura, where are you?

On the outskirts of Woking in Surrey, in village beginning with K. Lower school initials are KLS.

Does that help?

LIZS · 24/06/2007 21:14

ah I see ,that makes sense. Just seemed it was a bit late for September though, but maybe I read the ad wrong .
