If anyone has literally one minute to fill in a survey for some market research I am doing in order to see if there is a demand for more private schools please could you fill in this survey? TIA

Eh what? Loads of prep schools are closing for lack of pupils.

That's not the case in my area of the UK at all. More have opened in the past few years.

Thanks for the replies, just trying to get a feel for the market. Am an experienced teacher and have worked in both state and private sectors. Thinking about opening a school but realise this is a massive step so just trying to get a feel for the market. I appreciate all opinions.

Badly designed survey I’m afraid OP. you need to be able to put more than one option eg for ages of kids and what’s is important to you. Plus fees are meaningless without knowing where in the country the person is.

Yes it hasn't really worked, I used survey monkey for the first time and needed to think out my questions first. Thanks for the input. Will re write it and add in those factors.

As a private school parent I think you also need to consider the schools USP. At KS1 I was looking for sport, drama and music in addition to the standard curriculum. At KS2 I wanted proper access to language tuition from specialists, less sport, music and drama had become even more important.
KS3 for a variety of reasons I was looking for high levels of pastoral care and support of a very bright child ( CAT scores over 130), but really slow visual processing ( less than 80).
KS4 I was looking for the right subjects to be accessible and support for an extensive extra-curricular activities outside school necessitating days off etc.
People's needs change, I have been exceptionally lucky I found a school that offered everything I needed from reception to 16. Sadly as much as I love the school it will not offer what we need for sixth form. My DD has also been lucky that the school are enormously proud of her achievements outside of school - she is a little bit of a pin up girl for them on social media.

Around here theres been 5 privaite schools close in the last few years. And a further 2 changing to accademy state schools. Leaving only one privaite option in the area.

It is a highly populated area. And a well off area. Just seems no call for them anymore.

Notquiteagandt · 21/11/2018 16:45

Just to add these where 3-18 yrs schools with hundreds years of history and reputation.

Bimmy76 · 21/11/2018 17:54

You need to add the area. Where I am (London) all the private schools are oversubscribed and far more expensive than £12k. In otter areas it will be entirely different.

Brimstonenotfire · 21/11/2018 17:57

We use private and I woulnt contemplate a newly started school. Takes years to build up facilities and decent teaching reputation etc.

AbstractNoun · 21/11/2018 18:28

Set one up in West London!
Use Kew House as an exemplar...
Oversubscribed within a couple of years...
The demand seems insatiable.
