Hello Everyone,

Would really appreciate any advice anyone has on either Avenue Pre Prep in Highgate or Annemount School in Hampstead G Sub? We are considering both for our son and are struggling to choose!

Anecdotally Annemount is bad for boys - the head is said to not understand them and prefers girls. I have heard that from several friends who have kids there. If you're looking for a pre-prep for a boy in that area I'd look at Golders Hill.

At Golders hill, majority of kids leave before reception, just there for nurseries. Theres about 4 kids on average after that. Either year 1 or 2, i think year 1 doesnt exist now because all the kids left!

That's a one-off @missflippy, they had a large number go to Habs at 5 last year, out of a small reception class, hence no year 1 this year.

Thanks @pretendingtowork1 for the suggestion of Golders, i will have a look. I have read similar things online about boys vs girls. Do you friends have personal experiences of this? Do they have boys at the school?

Hi Kitty. Both schools are lovely - I have recent direct experience of both.

My daughter was at The Avenue until reception and we found it a nurturing, caring environment. My son was at Annemount which was a better school-fit for him. Personally, I don't think it is as simple as Annemount being "bad for boys." Rather, that the structure on offer is not suitable for all children. It just so happens it was a great environment for my son, but it would not have suited my daughter (apparently reversing the anecdotal trend).

I made school choices based on where I believed my children would best thrive, hence different schools. Logistics might also come in to your thinking. I also don't think changing schools before children are 7 is difficult, if you feel your son ends up in the wrong place.

Various people I know (more than one) who have moved their boys away, or chosen not to send them to AM in the last 5-10 years, probably not in the last 2 years.

Hi NoRegretsCoyote,
I read your post with interest. I am familiar with one of the pre-preps (Avenue) but not the other (Annemount), which I am considering for pre-reception - please could you outline the differences as you perceive them?
Many thanks!
