Hello,

Wanting to find out people’s views on Cypress Primary School in Croydon.

It was deemed ‘Requires Improvement’ at latest OFSTED two years ago and taken over by Pegasus Trust last year.

Any views, good or bad would be helpful, we are also looking at our DS going to school at CSA in 2020 and unsure of how Croydon or the Trust view this.

Many thanks

DS is in the lower school at Cypress. When we moved to the area the infants was Outstanding but the merger with the Juniors wasn't handled well and things went downhill.

DS started at Little Cypress nursery which I recommend to everyone. The Ofsted inspectors singled it out for praise in their report and it is truly wonderful. The staff obviously love and care for the children. Every day they plan new and exciting activites and provide the children with a solid grounding in the basics with lots of enrichment in a lovely environment.

DS's teachers have really got to know him well and track his progress carefully. He is happy at school and making solid progress. Communication with class teachers and TAs has also been good.

Cypress is a real community school. The PTFA organises lots of well attended events for parents and children and raises a large amount of money which has funded a new library, playground equipment and arts events. This year we have an author as our patron of reading to encourage storytelling.

The school is still on a journey but there have been clear improvements already. Pegasus are trying and largely succeeded in being tough on standards while keeping much of the fun and community stuff which makes it such a happy place. The grounds are wonderful and they have an allotment, forest area and chickens! We're lucky to have so much space in London.

In terms of CSA I know the council agrees CSA starts but I'm not sure about the Pegasus policy.

That was a bit of an essay but I hope it's useful. There are lots of lovely schools in the area so good luck with your decision.
