Exceptional and compelling decisions

What information are Parents allowed to have? Are we entitled to know the reason for rejection or if it was a unanimous/majority decision?

Obviously the reason is that the panel weren't convinced of the need, but will they explain their reasoning?

I'm presuming you are talking about a failed appeal?

The letter should explain how the panel came to their decision and how they took your arguments into account. The Appeals Code states

"The panel must ensure that the decision is easily comprehensible so
that the parties can understand the basis on which the decision was made. The decision letter must contain a summary of relevant factors that were raised by the parties and considered by the panel. It
must also give clear reasons for the panel’s decision, including how, and why, any issues of fact or law were decided by the panel during the hearing."

Sorry, my post was badly written. Not an appeal, an application for admission on exceptional and compelling grounds. The panel rejected the application and we didn't gain a place at the school.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

My experience from friends is that exceptional grounds is really that. I know of several people who applied asking for that and were told it didn't count.
Ones I know where I know very close information: Witness protection-told by SS that they had to take a school out of area
Mother terminally ill and likely to die during first term
and others where I know fewer details but what I believe to be true and I would have thought counted.

I assume it’s a need where only that school can provide it....

The requirement is that, when you are refused admission, the admission authority must set out the reasons for refusal and also tell you how to appeal. That doesn't mean they have to say why you didn't qualify for this category. If this was an in year application they can simply say that there were no places available and don't have to say anything about which category your child was placed in. If you appeal they will have to give more information about the decision if that was the reason you failed to get a place.

Thank you.

I can't really post the full story as it's quite outing, but thank you for that information, it's helpful.
