Home visit from nursery - what can I expect?

Dd2 is due to start nursery at the local primary school in September.

We had a letter saying that they are coming to the house to do a "home visit" on the 21st of this month.

What can I expect from this? Obviously, I will clean and tidy the house, but what are they looking for?

Revisiting this thread as Lo & behold, I recieved a letter this morning saying that I am having a home visit too. LOL.

My problem is that my visit will be on the day after I return to work after Mat Leave. I am booked on a training course that I can't cancel. It would be on this bloody day wouldn't it. It says on the letter that the teacher can't change the appointment as she has a tight schedule.

This is the church school, that I would really like DS to attend. So what do you reckon, exceptional circumstances and should I write them a letter or email.
