4+ Assessments 2019

My daughter who is a late summer baby will be doing some assessments over the next few months. Looks like SHHS will begin their at the end of October and others in January. She's in a school that goes only to 7 (which she is really enjoying). We thought we'd put her down for some assessments so as to not need to go through the stress of 7+ if we can avoid it. Having said that, our hopes aren't high given when we visited, we did not see many summer babies. I recall seeing 2 born between June-August out of 3 classes at SHHS. Just thought I would see who else is going through the 4+ journey.

Decorate biscuits and cupcakes! They always do that as the ‘activity’. You and your daughter will be shown to the library and they’ll do some colouring or stickers while they acclimatise.

Then they will be taken to another room and you’ll wait for them in the library. It’s not an academic assessment. They’ll play a game to see how they interact with others, and I would practice talking a little bit about themselves, what they like to do, their family. They may read a story and ask about it.

It’s a very kind, nurturing environment and the assessment reflects this. My daughter wanted to stay that afternoon - as did the other tots! I would also have the rest of the day in your usual routine, go to nursery etc if that’s what is usual for that day.

Best of luck and please feel free to ask any questions you may have

Thanks a lot @startagaintomorrow

Channing is top on our list for the same reason you have mentioned. We would take Channing anytime over NLCS or SHHS. But unfortunately my daughter has naturally been "academic". She is late August born and more interested in Alphabets. She can spell and write many words, knows her phonics and do basic addition subraction. This might sound like we have pushed this on her, but its just that she has picked this up from her pre-reception school and just exceled with very little help and lunch time youtube videos.

She has not so much into art yet, she has a good pencil grip but wouldnt sit and draw.
She also has had speech delay but now can make sentences just that her words are not that clear we have notified the school about this. So talking about the family and answer's to stories are not her best suits.

Your suggestion is great help we will focus on decorating, and more answer to question.

We decided to stay at our current Prep School in Hampstead. She is quite settled and is getting the support she needs. Our thinking behind this decision was, we send our kids to learn and she is learning something new everyday; why disrupt. We will now try at 11+

Well look at the early learning curriculum and parctice things from that. You won't be able to make them do everything but there will be things from the curriculum they are naturally good at. Support them in that; don't push them.
