Playground stages

Does anyone's school have a stage in the playground for the kids to play on at break/lunchtime? Our PTFA have a grant (£3000) for equipment and the children voted for a stage but that will take up all our money. I'm worried it will get vandalised (the yobs tore another metal fence panel down this weekend and ripped the roof off the shelter a couple of years ago) plus it will be slippery in the rain and damp. But it's what they asked for! They have a bit of a trim trail already and little space to fit more in on that surfaced area. Any advice or comments gratefully received.

The infant school mine went to got one towards the end of when my dc were there. The girls did love it-it had a little stage and some benches to "watch" and I think the classes sometimes used it for things too.
Ds was my only one left in the school at that point and he thought it pretty pointless though.

I think after initial enthusiasm by mostly the girls for 'putting on shows' it will be used as something to jump on and off amd probably regularly have to be deemed out of bounds because it is slippery and dangerous. I can think of far better uses of the £3000.

In my school we have an "amphitheatre" type setup rather than a stage, so nothing to become slippery or to jump off. It's basic seating in rows around a semi circle with some painted lines for the "stage". They absolutely love it and have a props box in the outdoor container for dry days.

They have one in ds’s school. He fell off it and broke his collar bone! Loads of kids piled on a raised surface is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

I'd spend the money on anti vandal measures. Our stages are basically decking

Thanks everyone. You're persuading me against! Sorry to hear about the broken collar bone!! My DD also said that everyone will be arguing over whose turn it is and how long they should each have. Maybe a painted on area will do (thanks Catsarelife) and we can buy something else. The playground already has prison-like fencing and CCTV but the most effective measures at reducing damage have been leaving the gate open so they don't have to damage the fence and not replacing the shelter roof so they don't have anywhere dry to sit! Perhaps just painting new activity areas on the tarmac will be best. Thank you.
