Help: reading schemes

My child has just moved schools between reception and Y1. The old school had a reading scheme called PM plus, and he was level 10 on that one by the time he left. The new school uses a different one called Oxford Treetops (I think) and they have sent him home with a level 14 book which seems an awful lot harder (more than three levels harder, I reckon). I am not sure how these relate. And how do they relate to the colours that everyone talks about on MN? How do you know what colour level your child is on? What colour levels are you supposed to be doing in Y1?

That level 10 looks about Blue band which my DS is on. So look at those plus the next level maybe on Oxford Owl?

The level 10 looks like the level a child would be on if they're doing well at reading by the end of reception - probably would be one of the better readers but not the best in the class.

The level 14 treetops look like what a good reader would be on in Y3. I agree with PP that this must have been given in error. Certainly nowhere near standard material for a competent Y1 reader.

It definitely seems wrong. My dd is 7 and in y3 and is one of the better readers and is on level 13/14 I think it's grey band and they're not challenging for her at all but are quite long winded.

I think there is one dc on the level above her, most are quite a way below.

Thank you to everyone who explained about this scheme and sent links to the charts.

There has now been a parents information evening. I have discovered the Treetops level 14 book was not a mistake. However, they said that they experiment with trying a few different levels on each child in the first couple of weeks before they settle on the right level. He has since moved down to a lower level, level 11 now (lime green?), and while I am still not quite sure how that relates to his old scheme, it doesn't matter so much now as he seems to be happy with them and the content definitely seems more appropriate for a 5yo.
