How many sets of uniform for private preschool?

Hi my dd is starting preschool, it’s private and the uniforms are expensive, can anyone recommend how many sets I will really need- she will go in every day mixture of half and full days, they have aprons for messy play and lunch. I’m thinking 3 sets but I don’t fancy the pressure of mid week wash dry and ironing unless one offs. Thanks

My dts have never come home from nursery (preschool) in a fit state to wear their clothes again, sorry.
You'll need a clean set for every day, as she'll come home covered in paint, yoghurt, mud, sand, soaking wet... quite possibly all in one day.

one set per day. aprons will only keep the worst off, but they'll still be filthy. most schools have a second hand uniform sale (

you'll probably need a spare set to be left in school as well!

I bought 1 new set and 1 slightly larger set second hand.
I washed uniform most days on a 15 min wash then in the dryer anyway.
Getting a larger second set allows for growth and you aren’t wasting your money.

Yes suppose she does wear different outfits everyday at nursery currently and it’s only a couple of weeks away- I’ll just get 5 then! Thanks

Even if it is private, why on earth does a pre-school need a uniform?

ToesInWater · 16/08/2018 13:40

Depends totally on your child. My DD could easily wear any item of clothing for three days in a row as a 3/4/5 year old as long as she had an apron for painting, my boys less so 😁 Our school had no uniform for preschool but in Kindy (first year of school in Aus) she had two school dresses which was fine.

MarthasGinYard · 16/08/2018 13:41

I bought loads of bits in the nearly new worth a look if they have one

Noqont · 16/08/2018 13:45

The uniform sale is your friend.

laptopdisaster · 16/08/2018 15:39

check for a second hand sale before you spend big!

Do children need a different number of sets of uniform for private rather than state?

worcestersauce29 · 16/08/2018 18:48

It was a long time ago but my daughter wore a smock over her uniform for all lessons and meal times, wellies and pumps outside so I only bought one of everything (other than knickers, socks and 2 blouses; also 2 summer dresses)

Mommybearx · 17/08/2018 09:53

A lot of schools have uniforms.... it’s a relaxed version of the school uniform like jogging bottoms and sweatshirt or summer dress, it prepares them for school and they are at the school so why wouldn’t they wear one. I think it’s easier than selecting clothes every day and having nice clothes ruined by paint stains.

No- who said they do? It’s my first child and this board is for people like myself to be able to get advice from other mothers

Moomin I assume the private bit was mentioned because the uniforms tend to be more expensive. They usually can't be bought in supermarkets, etc.

5000KallaxHoles · 17/08/2018 11:42

OP only you know your child - one of mine at preschool age I could regularly manage to get 2-3 days out of her "uniform" (they wore coloured polos and I usually chucked them in the jersey style trousers that were almost jogger from Asda... not actual jogger bottoms cos they don't ever stay up on my kids!).. the other child - I could get 2-3 hours if I was lucky!

Mommybearx · 21/08/2018 08:38

Thanks all, I ordered 3 jumpers with more tshirts and more skirts/joggers in case of accidents and I will wash jumpers mid week if required. I have a tumble dryer so should be okay although a pain I’m sure i’ll get use to it. Like some of you said- my dd isn’t that messy and they wear a overall for art work and another one for meal times.
