Independent schools in Richmond

Hi all,

Moving to London in jan 2019 with 2 boys aged 5 and 8. We need to find a school and looks like we will need to look at independent schools rather than state schools. Could you give me any insight into schools in the Richmond area? Or any reviews on the Mall, Twickenham prep, Kew college or kings house? These seem to get the most good reviews on the searches I have done online. Any advise at all would be really appreciated!

Whereabouts are you planning on living? Twickenham Prep is actually in Hampton.
State school wise the LEA has to find you places for your boys but it doesn’t have to be the closest school to you and they don’t have to be together. Saying that most primaries in the area are good or outstanding and there is movement in the schools so although the schools are oversubscribed in reception places do come up.
The Mall will be finishing at age 11 in a few years. Kings House finishes at age 13 and don’t prep for 11+ so it’s worth thinking about your plans for senior schools. Kings House is boys only.
Others to consider are Falcon Boys (Richmond). Newland House (Twickenham). Hampton prep (Hampton) especially if you are thinking about Hampton for senior. Tower House (Sheen) .Some maybe full already so call them.

Thanks so much Mary! No idea where we will be living yet. I might try state schools then. I didn’t realise that they have to get them a place. We will now be arriving in April so it will be in the middle of the year. Not ideal but no choice! Will the LEA have the same process if it’s mid year?

If you arrive in mid year then you will need to apply as soon as you have a rental contract, and you will get in the waiting list. You will be ahead in the WL the closer you are to the school. I would call the LA for guidance though, as not sure if it is different depending on at what time of the year you apply and also how it works if religious schools etc so it will also depend on which schools you are moving nearest to.

Hi there, have two boys about to start reception and year 3 in sept 2018. We looked at all those and really liked Them all. They offered things that fit both boys differently. In the end we went for Staines prep..... alittle further out but the one that suited both boys differently but met most of each DS’s needs x
