Relocating to Glasgow, Need Primary Schools recommendations

Hello,
I am moving to Glasgow in September with my family. I have a daughter who will turn 7 next month. What are areas in Glasgow and around for decent primary schools I should be looking at? I am looking to rent an apartment for a reasonable price in that area and would like my commute to be around 45 min or so to the Glasgow City Center where my office is.

Please suggest me some places that I can search on rightmove.com for rentals considering good primary schools.

Thanks!

lenzie/kirkintilloch in east dunbartonshire have lots of good primaries that feed into lenzie academy , which is an excellent secondary school. it’s 10 minutes on the train into central glasgow and less than an hour to edinburgh .

@Hanfleur Thank You. I am from India originally and I am coming over from US. I checked the rental market and as you said not many options as of now. But I will keep looking. I would need an 1/2 bedroom apartment starting Sept 20. Please let me know if you know of properties to rent. Smile

Thank you @nooddsocksforme. I will look for apartment in these ares too. Smile

Schools like Shawlands Primary, Langside Primary and Battlefield Primary are all schools with very mixed (and welcoming) ethnicities. Shawlands Academy itself has 55 languages spoken amongst its pupils! Shock - and still gets good results Grin

This was the S6 "Cultural Lunch" this year - where the S6s made (or got their parents or grandparents to make Hmm) food that reflected their backgrounds and then the teachers paid to eat, with the funds going to charity.

Oh this is marvelous! Believe me this is something that I haven't heard of before happening in schools. My wife and myself be happy to be a part of this program as well Smile
And 55 languages is just an amazing number Shock. I am sure there are many brilliant students studying in those schools!!

I would take Clydebank off your list. Not a great area in my opinion.

@EmmaC78 That is a very valuable and useful input. Thank you Smile

I will not look for flats there.

Shawlands Academy is apparently (according to the British Council), the most international (state) school in the UK Shock

Not sure how true it is - I'm sure there are schools in London which are equally international.

The depute head at Shawlands a Academy actually says that there are 56 languages spoken at the school if you include Klingon Wink

At ds' old primary, I can think of 10 languages spoken: Urdu, Hindi, Polish, French, Bengali, Arabic, Greek, Russian, Dutch and English spoken - and in the playground there would also be Gaelic spoken as it is now a joint campus with the Gaelic medium primary. That school feeds Bellahouston Academy (which maybe had fewer languages Wink) - ds was a placing request to Shawlands Academy.

How is East Dunbartonshire? I see flats with good rates there. Places like Bishopbriggs, Milngavie?

East Renfrewshire has great schools. Newton Mearns/Giffnock/Busby/Clarkston. We are near Strathaven which has nice schools and is very quiet but possibly slightly far out for you. Eaglesham is lovely, very village feel.

A bit further out but Gourock is lovely. Trains take 30 mins or 45 mins to Glasgow central. Primary schools are nice then Clydeview Academy for secondary seems to be great for kids.

I was brought up in Bearsden/Milngavie - great state schools, good places to live and really close to beautiful countryside. My dad still lives there.

Good public transport to get into the city centre from Bearsden, Milngavie, Bishopbriggs, Lenzie (not so much from the outlying villages Sad)

Still prefer living in Glasgow though Wink

Definitely Bearsden/Milngavie. Lovely area. Good schools. You may find it hard to rent a property as its quite pricey though.
No to Clydebank.

I would like to Thank all of you for you valuable recommendations. I did exactly what you guys recommended and looked for places in those areas only. The rental market was not great. There were many disappointment that came our way after we applied for the flats in the recommended areas.
But finally we settled down in a flat in a nice area in Newton Mearns.

After some documentation, my daughter will start school soon. Smile

Thank you very much all of you again!

Regards, Mithilesh
