Just had KS2 results - surprising for us and a lot of the rest of the class. School results massively below national on the bit of paper we were given.

I was wondering whether there is any info anywhere on what expected progress should be extrapolated from the KS1 results (when we were on the old system with 2’s and 3’s). I’ve had a search, but can’t find anything.

Thanks

It is not really possible to extrapolate from KS1 to KS2 expectation at present as the pupils will have taken the KS1 tests before the new curriculum came in, which was tested in the KS2 papers.
If the results are significantly below the national average, then I think you do need to be asking the school what has happened and why the results are so much lower than average. It could be that this was a year group that collectively was simply not as good as previous years or average in any way. But from your comments it would seem that you were not expecting such poor results which really does then need an explanation from the school.

But there must be something. Aren’t schools judged on progress made?

School is denying there is an issue. That (despite good KS1 results) the cohort has always been low-achieving and that they were let down by infant teachers at the school who have since left. School has been in special measures for a while, governors are dissolved, school has been on the verge of joining an academy chain for a while. Head is being dismissive. At feb parents evenings we were told children progressing and my DC (and others) “working above age related expectations”. Now we have tanked. Not only do I feel let down, I have younger children I am concerned about.

There is a method of converting KS1 results into progress measures, but it is horrendously complicated and only possible after the Government has trawled through all the national results. They then come up with prior attainment bands, in which children are placed in dependant on their KS1 overall results. This band will produce an expected KS2 score and progress is measured from that. The bands/scores haven't yet been calculated. When they are, schools will be given a progress measure for reading, writing and maths. Zero means expected progress, anything positive means more than expected, anything negative means less than expected.

Most schools will have used last year's progress measures to calculate this, so they will have a rough idea of whether they have met targets yet. Because the standards expected have increased so much, schools which have progress measure of -5 for reading and maths and -7 for writing are considered to be above floor target.
If you use
www.tes.com/teaching-resource/ks1-to-ks2-progress-measure-and-target-setting-2017-version-11784968 , you can work out roughly the expected score from KS1 results.

The school response sounds very poor. If the governors board has been dissolved has an interim board been put in place by the LA?

If it's in special measures I'd expect the KS2 results may trigger a monitoring visit sooner rather than later.
