Possible dyslexia diagnosis

Can anyone please assess the attached test results and advise if this is an accurate diagnosis of dyslexia and what the next steps should be. TIA.

I should add that the child is a boy 9 years and 7 months old.

Only an educational psychologist can diagnose if your child has dyslexia. Who did this test?

I carry out a similar test in my secondary school. The results show the likelihood of the student having dyslexia. It is not a diagnosis.

It looks like the print out from a digital screening tool. It indicates your child has poor phonological skills which may indicate "dyslexia" or may indicate poor teaching. In either case the answer is to address the problem.

This looks like a screening tool, it is supposed to indicate which students it is worth spending the money on to be assessed for dyslexia, as in may have a 10% or so liklihood of getting diagnosed with dyslexia. These tools have their place, but are crude and inaccurate. If you have a cohort of 200, this sort of screening is one way of possibly picking up on a student with the issue, but not as reliable as teachers picking it up.

So to answer your question, no, this is not an accurate diagnosis of dyslexia. Your next step would be to pass it on to the SENCO, but the liklihood is that they will have many students that would score like this, and it would not be expected that all would then be assessed by an ed psych.

Thank you all, the test was carried out by a "Dyslexia Centre" who also advised that primary school would not diagnose and best to wait for when he starts secondary school (in 2 years time) who would do test. They also advised that private diagnosis would be £400+ and that this should instead be spent on private tuition. What would you advise next steps? Speak to the schools SENCO? Engage private tuition, do more work at home around reading, spelling etc? Interestingly school report make a no mention of dyslexia but does say reading and maths is expected progress and working at expected standard but writing is less than expected and working towards. Is this what you'd expect to see from a child with Dyslexia? Thanks again

It doesn't look like a particularly scientific test. The reading age is spot on chronological age but elements such as spelling are relatively weaker. Beyond that there is little information. Who commissioned the screening and does the "Dyslexia centre" have a vested interest in ongoing tuition. Was the screening face to face or online? A private Ed Psych assessment can cost upwards of £250 ime and it seems doubtful school would consider his performance to warrant a referral. Maybe ask SENCO if they know of anyone locally.

Looks like my DD's initial screening, she has a visual processing disorder ( probably would have been called dyslexia in the past).

You need further assessment.
My DD's problems are complex as teachers fail to realise/forget about her processing disorder. Verbally she is excellent, but even with 25% extra time and use of a laptop in exams she struggled to finish the work.
