is the school VA or VC - do they set their own criteria for admissions?

as they are VA they set their own criteria for admission and you will have to appeal to the governors.

how can you appeal to the governors if the governors are the ones who refuse you entry in the first place?

well basically you have to ask them to reconsider their decision - they make the decisions re admittance to the school.

If the school was VC then the local council would make the decisions re admission and you would appeal to them.

thanks iota. i'm guessing they'd never agree to go over 30 in the infants !

You have grounds for appeal if you think they have not followed their admission procedures. So, if they have a priority system for children (church attendance, siblings, distance etc) you may feel your child has been put in the wrong category and have grounds for appeal.
If they are oversubscribed, and they have followed their admissions procedure, you have no grounds for appeal.
Sorry.......

thanks, aig.

does that mean church schools can never be forced to take more than 30 in the infants?

also, do you know why they can get away with only taking 32 in the juniors, whilst other schools take 35?

If they didn't follow their admissions policy correctly then they can be foreced to take in over 30 but they have to have an additional teacher.

In terms of juniors the class size will also depend on the amount of sace avilable - if there isn't physically room to fit in 35 children then the school won't be required to shoe-horn them in.
