DD loves reading and is good at it. (She got 40 on the phonics test and is on Lime books though tbh we don’t bother with them at home anymore.) She’s just finishing Y1.

She’s read The Faraway Tree series, the first Harry Potter, Narnia, the Worst Witch, lots of Ronald Dahl. We could do more Blyton but I think the Famous Five etc are less suitable for her age range. (Same with the HP series.) Any recommendations for stuff that’s age appropriate and will be fun to read? Whenever we go to the library she’s immediately drawn to those Fairy/Bunny stories that make me want to gouge my own eyes out 😆 I don’t care if she wants to read them, but I’d like to invest in some better stuff too!

Judy Moody was a hit with my 6 year old DD ( who finished Brown band a while ago but hates anything scary or "too sad"- especially to read to herself at bedtime. And she is very anti fairy! David Walliams - eg The Demon Dentist was definitely in the "too sad" box!)
She loved the Ramona series
Julius Zebra got re-read a lot ( zebra - becomes a gladiator!! Yes, but apparently it works!)
Supercat series (Jeanne Willis). I enjoyed that one too!
The 13 etc tree house gets our vote as well
How to train your Dragon- though number 1 and 2 were fine, then "too scary".
The World's greatest worrier series
Goblins by Philip Reeve - we read some together, she read some. The second one was "too sad" though.
