How many teachers do you have leaving this summer?

We have 5 which I feel is a lot. There are 7 classes (one class intake) but some teachers are job shares (so it’s not like we are only left with 2!) Just wondering if this is a normal amount as it seems a lot to me.

Double form entry. One off on mat leave but nobody leaving.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 29/06/2018 22:17

One leaving this summer. We're a one form entry.

Sirzy · 29/06/2018 22:19

1.5 form entry. No staff leaving but they do have a very low staff turnover

HairyMaclary · 29/06/2018 22:21

One from each year group and the deputy head. 3 form entry primary school.

CleanHankie · 29/06/2018 23:13

11 members of staff leaving. Will mean 7 out of 14 class teachers next year will be new to the school. Pretty jaw dropping although they all seem to be leaving for different reasons

FrayedHem · 29/06/2018 23:22

2/7 class teachers plus the Head of school. There are currently 2 classes with no permanent teacher so there will be 4 new teachers from September. Assistant Head is being promoted

SprogletsMum · 29/06/2018 23:24

Only 1 but she was a maternity cover and her contract will be over.

spaghettipeppers · 29/06/2018 23:51

We've never been fully staffed since I arrived here. Currently running minus 2 teachers, another 5 leaving in summer (although one is going home to Scotland and one to Ireland rather just running for the hills).

Pengweng · 30/06/2018 07:47

5 teachers and around 8 support staff are leaving.
A few relocating, some are due to budget cuts, some SLT are taking more responsibility in the classroom so contract teachers not being renewed and some are leaving because they are mat covers and the old teachers are coming back in September.

It seems like loads though in our 2 form entry school.

RebeccaCloud9 · 30/06/2018 07:50

3 form entry. None leaving. 2 tas having to leave because of short term contracts/budgets but everyone is sad about that. No one on mat leave for the first time since I started here 6 years ago. Don't think I will ever leave it's a great place to work.

MelanieSmooter · 30/06/2018 08:14

One of nine. Not bad really.

PurpleDaisies · 30/06/2018 08:19

Two leaving of their own accord, one with no job to go to. Another one and a half have been made redundant.

PurpleDaisies · 30/06/2018 08:19

We’re alsk losing three TAs. It’s only one form entry so it’s a big loss.

Pibplob · 30/06/2018 09:43

It’s worrying isn’t it? Teachers seem to have had enough and we are losing a couple of really good ones too. 😢

With the ones leaving this summer it will mean the longest standing teacher at my DC school will have been there since Jan 2017.

It is hard when you lose good teachers, but also they have to go off and progress their careers too. (I couldn't blame the good ones who've left my DC school, the atmosphere is awful!)

RedFin · 30/06/2018 10:05

frayed I don't think teachers are leaving to progress their careers. I think they're leaving to protect their mental health!

I don't mean that to sound snarky, tone is tricky online. But genuinely the UK school system is a disaster

FrayedHem · 30/06/2018 10:10

You're right redfin, maybe I should have said something more like "having a try elsewhere before finding an alternative career as it's just unspeakably shit in so many schools" would have been better.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/06/2018 10:39

One

Aragog · 30/06/2018 10:42

9 classes, 11 teachers and 12 TAs in total.

1 teacher leaving (onto work outside the profession I think)
2 TAs leaving (one retirement; 1 to start teacher training)

So very light this year. Sometimes it's more, but never a huge number and mostly it's to move onto a new job with a career progression, baby, or retirement.

BingTheButterflySlayer · 30/06/2018 10:46

Honestly? Apart from one teacher going on maternity leave - none are leaving. Couple of very long-term TAs going but I think they're taking early retirement (one's been there so long she's supported the parents when they were at school and a few of the younger grandparents) and a couple of other support staff.

Staff turnover at our school is ridiculously low - it's a very very happy supportive staff, lots of the teachers live within the general catchment of the school.

spaghettipeppers · 30/06/2018 11:39

Yikes.

FrayedHem · 30/06/2018 11:48

spaghettipeppers it got graded Inadequate autumn 2016 and a lot of teachers left around then - not all through choice. Unfortunately replacements have come and gone for a variety of reasons (some personal circumstances, some walked and some were managed out)

BackforGood · 30/06/2018 13:16

here is a debate in Parliament this coming Tuesday (3rd June) about Education cuts.
You can read some facts and figures here and there is a link to send an easy e-mail to your MP if you don't have time to compose your own.

Thanks for the link BackforGood

Our exodus happened over the last few years. At the beginning of this school year the combined 'years of service' of the seven class teachers was 5 years. 5/7 of a year on average.
This year, only 2 out of 7 are leaving; one not returning from maternity leave, the other being the Y6 teacher. Over the last 5 years no Y6 teacher has lasted more than a year so that is no surprise (though sad).
