Any teachers around? Teacher gifts!

DD is leaving reception this year.

Her teacher has been amazing so will get a present for when she finishes next month.

As a teacher, what have you found the best kind of present?

I don't want to get a generic chocolate gift. I know she has children so not sure if alcohol would be wise 😂

I usually give a costa voucher. Quite often you see teachers from our school in there at lunch time or after school and everyone likes a bit of cake and a drink surely

We are expected to give cash By who??

Apparently the teachers say they want cash. So the PTA class rep keeps emailing us until a sufficiently large sum of cash has been donated. You can do your own thing as well but not instead.

If teachers receive cash or vouchers over a certain amount they have to declare it and it should be viewable on a gifts register. It sounds very dodgy to me - are they paying tax on this 'bonus?

Dd2 (9) gave her teacher a handwritten thank you letter (although a picure would have gone down as well from a younger student) and a TK Maxx gift card (we are in the USA so it's TJ Maxx here). Very gratefully received.

We give cash (only if you want to and there’s no set amount). It works out great, I spend less than I would otherwise and the teacher gets a gift card from “everyone”. It’s not a huge amount but seems more practical than lots of small gifts.

Prosecco!
Nothing edible that is home made, as however lovely the family is, it tends to be grateful received but never actually eaten in case it's a bit dodgy!

Some prep schools have a PTA rep that collects cash for a whole class gift. I’ve contributed to that a few times. Works better than lots of odd gifts. At DDs v expensive boarding school, one parent gave the teacher a Smythson handbag!

If you want to give something for the school, give a thousand Pritt Sticks! Every school is short of glue :).

Alcohol is fine if you know she likes it- why would her having children make a difference to whether it is suitable or not?
