Croydon vs Wimbledon Primary schools

Hello,

we are currently thinking about DS school prospects and are considering to move to Wimbledon from Croydon.

DH would like to stay in Croydon, but we are wondering if there is a big difference in primary schools?

In Croydon, we are looking at Park Hill Junior (we are in the catchment area). In Wimbledon, we would like be looking a Wimbledon Chase.

I am not sure how to read the SATS outcomes for KS2, but from those it looks like that these schools are roughly the same in terms of academic performance?

www.wimbledonchaseschool.co.uk/sats/
www.phjs.co.uk/performance-data/

I.e. 25% achieving the higher than expected standard at Park Hill at KS 2, but only 12% At Wimbledon Chase...

Am I interpreting these numbers correctly?

Any help would be fantastic...

Thank you

I don't know I'm afraid but FYI Wimbledon Chase has a specific (and v small) defined catchment area 'Admissions Priority Area' so be prepared to move very close. Like many places, Wimbledon schools are hard to get into unless you live v close or meet their faith criteria. All the best.

Park Hill is one of the best primaries in Croydon - you’d be mad to move out of catchment.

Thank for the info on Park Hill. I understand it is a good primary.

Do you know why the school recently joined the Folio trust?
Is this because they want to move it from good to outstanding?

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know the size of the catchement area?

DH and I keep going back and forth on quality. Park Hill Junior has similar KS2 sats scores to Wimbledon Chase but only an Ofsted ratimg of good rather than outstanding....

I am no expert but wonder where the difference comes from...

Catchment details here www2.merton.gov.uk/learning/schools/admissions/primary-admissions/primary-admissions-criteria/wimbledon_chase_priority_area.htm Merton Admissions would give you any specific details.

Why don't you go see both schools and see which would best suit your child? For me, that is more important that the specific stat %'s which are both no doubt good.
If you're after only top league schools in Wimbledon you might want to consider Hollymount, Wimbledon Park, & Bishop Gilpin. Most schools in Wimbledon are v good IMO.
Good luck.

Thank you fir your insights

Primary schools don't send any children to grammars. Parents and tutors do sadly.

My children go to an average 'good primary'. Very average KS2 results. This year 'they' sent 7 children to a very selective secondary. What this means is they had a cohort of parents who wanted their children to go to grammar and they tutored to make that happen.

Is your Ds already at school?
If not you need the Infant school. The Junior school just deals with KS2 - starting at about 8yo.

Hello. If you want to move to Wimbledon then I would recommend a session Mel Ingle Education consultant to talk you through local schools including results and catchment areas. She is excellent. All the schools in Wimbledon are lovely. It just depends where you live (and whether you are religious) as to what you go for. We are at our local (good, non denominational) primary and we love it.
