I'm going to look round a school this afternoon before handing in my job application. I've been qualified 9 years now but stopped full time teaching 5 years ago. I have done several term contracts and lots of supply but this will be my 1st "proper" job.

It's part time Key stage 2 and I REALLY want the job.

Can anyone help with Q's to ask, or just things that have changed recently.

What are the "buzzwords"

dizzymac- sorry you didn't get any answers in time! How did it go?

dizzymac · 24/05/2007 16:33

Sorry, only just checking.
Not that well I don't think. I'm going to put in my application but not holding out much hope.

Any pointers for things to mention in the supporting statement.

One thing our school always look for is what you can offer in addition to the curriculum - chess club, craft etc. Most primary teachers could run that type of club though, languages, orienteering, music would be more interesting and perhaps valuable to them. It shows you are keen to do more than the minimum lesson time job. Anything you can offer that makes you a little 'different' from everyone else.

Add in things that you have a particular interest in - behaviour management, parental involvement ...

Good luck

Thanks for getting back to me. I've just handed in the application so fingers crossed. All you have suggested was in the letter so hopefully it will pass muster. I am musical so put that in, they always like that!!!

Well..... I have an interview. I have to be there for 8.30, teach a 20 min literacy lesson to Y4, have a buffet lunch and if selected then go for afternoon interview.

I'm really nervous...

Also stressing about clothes. Will a black and white floral skirt, top and tailored black jacket do do you think. I don;t want a suit as its going to be hot on Thursday and I have to teach and be fresh for the afternoon.

Any body got any advice.

I know not strictly your age group but have you seen 'Letters and Sounds'? May be worth having a quick look before the interview as you may have some children that still need some of it.

Also the new Literacy Framework, I presume you have seen that? For the latest discussions on literacy have a look here

Also have you had a look here (if you have not already), they are generally very helpful
