Uniform for a small child

My ds is starting school in September. He's small for age, and has only just gone into age 2-3 year trousers. I've bought him some uniform in Sainsbury's, buying age 3 as it's the smallest they do. The tshirts are a little large but ok. The trousers, however, drown him. I could take the waist in, but it would mean having to take in about an inch and half. Is there anywhere that sells school trousers for younger children, or any shop that just tend to come up slimmer than Sainsbury's? Thanks.

I tend to find Sainsburys the slimmest Confused so all I can do is advise you to avoid George at Asda.

We've had some slim fit from Next - they start at age 3. I find Next generally quite small on the fit at the best of times and they offer different fittings. Have a look here.

M&S do size 2-3 with adjustable waists.

Lorelaiandrory · 08/06/2018 22:25

My DS was the same size and sainsburys were a perfect fit- with adjustable waist. M&S were like hammer pants with waist drawn in.

We got some aged 2-3 school trousers from Tesco last year. My 5 year old is still too short for Matalan age 3 but they are a slimmer fit and the waists are smaller.

My littlest was a girl but m and s slim fit in 2-3 was the best I found

My ds has little legs and we found the marks and Spencer slim fit trousers the best

I second Next slim fit. Age 3 trousers are age 2-3 if I am correct.

Next or m+s slim fit.

We used m&s for my small boy. He was small build anyway but also August born so was just turned 3 when he started.

We had a similar problem with DD & got some great bits from Debenhams. I got age 3 dresses, skirts & pe skort. Also some quite narrow plimsoles.

I have this issue too, my DS is in reception at the moment and we tried M&S age 2-3 and Next age 3 trousers but they were all too big, even with the waist pulled in.

In the end I bought his trousers and shorts from eBay, there are lots of different sellers that do generic elasticated pull-up trousers, starting at size 18 (age 1-2). He started the year in the age 1-2 but I've found their size 20 (age 2-3) are ok now, the sizing seems a bit smaller than the equivalent in the high street shops we've tried.

Not John Lewis slim fit. They seem to come up huge !!!!

Sainbury's are good for a slim fit that don't compromise on height, but I have found similar issues. A few years ago, John Lewis were great, but I have become increasing frustrated with them recently. Last year, in the fitting room, my daughter asked she didn't fit anything - 1 or 2 years younger sizing to fit her waist, that didn't then fit her height. I think the whole changing room heard me say , Because you are not fat enough, that's why!' in an exasperated way! I hate buying school uniform.

Asda, M&S and Next have also been big, in my experience.
