What happens when you receive school offer right now?

I was wondering if there is any other solution in this case.

My child has been on the waiting list of a preferred school, and now the council told us that the school has a place for her.

I have requested the start date to be delayed until September when the new school year begins, as it is not ideal to move my child when her current class is not finished.

However, both the council and the school refused. They said either I have to move now, or reject the offer.

Is there anything else I can do, or is this the only way?

Thank you

If they offer you a place you have to take it up straight away, even if that means for the last 6 weeks of the year
Think of it as styling in time for September

Why don't you want your child to move now? They would have half a term at new school, which is enough time to get settled in, and would then be able to socialize with new classmates over the summer, and do all the "moving up" type activities with their new class?

Thank you for your kind replies. I understand it now.

Otherwise basically you are taking up two spaces. Many schools are oversubscribed and someone could be waiting for the school you are currently at and it’s not fair to make them wait.

As someone who put in a school transfer request about this time last year and the place wasn't confirmed till the start of the summer holidays... I'd take the place up now personally and get the transition out of the way and your child knowing where things are and who's who in the school before the summer. It really did niggle away at DD1 a fair bit with the fact she was going into the unknown in September over that summer holiday last year and even if we could have got her in for the last couple of weeks of term it would have prevented that. She did settle in beautifully - but I could just see her slightly worrying about it.

I assume if you refuse the next person will just be offered.

Move now! I moved mine 3 weeks before end of Summer term (Yr 1) and was def the best thing. Chance to get to know new school before summer hols, to do some play dates with new friends over summer and much less anxiety about starting a new school after a long break....
