Hi

I wondered if anyone had any experiences with Weston Green School that they could share with me please. We’re looking to move into the area and finding it tough to decide on schools!

It's absolutely tiny. One year group has 7 kids - across two classes!! Struggle to retain "customers;". Outdoor/sports facilities very limited, they walk 15mins to go to PE. Look at claremont Fan Court prep and milbourne lodge both esher

Wow I knew it was small but that’s tiny!! I didn’t realise they lost people too. Not sounding a great option now. Thanks for the feedback

The Prep part is busy and full of dc, the 15 children in Year 6 achieved an exceptional set of entrance exams results to the top private & grammar schools. Lots of preps have the sports facilities a short walk away or coach drive if you consider Surbiton Juniors. Claremont Fan prep won't prepare your dc for entrance exams in the way WGS or The Study in New Malden will.

But everyone there gets tutored out of school too so it can't be said that it's wholly the school who got them through successfully. The retention of pupils is shocking.

I'm just going on hear-say by the way! My dc don't go but a friend pulled her kids out as it was so tiny. OP a tiny school might work for you of course but as above, there are other bigger (but still small classes) at other Esher preps. Claremont, St Georges, Milbourne and Westward are all co-ed; Surbiton, LEH are girls; Surbiton, Shrewsbury House, Hampton are boys.

MuffyDoon · 27/05/2018 12:17

Ok thanks both. I’m not so worried about the tutoring - it kind of seems like that goes on at any prep school but I am worried about the turnover!

I think one reason is it doesn't have a senior like many of its competitors. Particularly if the first child gets into a secondary then parents take out subsequent children from WG and move them to their prep iykwim. I'm all for small classes (my kids are in independent class size of 15 but a year group of 45) but 7 is tiny isn't it!

I am a little shocked by user 1300's comments on WGS, particularly as her children don't even go to the school! My daughter is in a class of 16 and the other class in her year group also has 16 pupils. The fields they use for PE are excellent and she in fact became interested in sport because of the school. Her education is rounded, the teachers are excellent (I'm an indie school teacher myself and I have the utmost respect for the WGS faculty). The fact that it is small is one of the reasons we enrolled her there. They care about individuals rather than statistics, something sadly lacking in some of the larger prep schools around. I also like Claremont Fancourt but we both preferred WG's ethos. I would advise members without any personal experience from schools to refrain from being so derogatory in their comments from mere hearsay.

Also shocked at user1300 comments. I’ve been a parent at Weston Green for 11 years and there has never been 7 pupils across 2 classes in any year. It is a small, incredibly nurturing school that does everything it can to get the best out of your child. My eldest was in a class of 15 and all the children got into the schools they wanted. My son was never tutored but most of the children I know at other prep schools are. It seems strange you are picking on Weston Green implying that they get their good results from tutoring but others schools don’t. There’s lots of choice of prep schools in this area but I think Weston Green offers something the bigger prep schools don’t.

Very disappointed with our experience at this school. My child came home crying and told me he didn’t want to go back, which was really concerning to hear as a parent. For the fees they charge, I expected a much higher standard of care and attention.
During pickup, I also noticed my child playing alone in a corner, and it made me feel unsure about how closely the children were being supervised. I had concerns about the overall level of attention and safeguarding, which ultimately made me feel that this school wasn’t the right fit for us.
