School trousers?

Novice here! My DS starts reception in September and needs grey school trousers. Which trousers would others recommend?

I'm going to need something quite comfy as he is so used to being in jogging bottoms / jersey shorts. Also can't manage buttons really. And he's quite big - broad build and tall and clumsy with a tendency to fall over and land on his knees..

So ideally something stretchy, durable, wide fitting and without button?! I suppose we could do button practice over the summer..

M&S used to do trousers without a button - elasticated waist but with a fake button panel.

All the stores do elasticated waist ones, my DS has them for nursery and lives in joggers the rest of the time.

M&S do stretchy pull on shorts and trousers. Shorts are much better for little ones I've found, easier for them to handle. Buy five pairs. And five polo shirts!

They are usually elasticated up to a certain age. We used to order in from M&S and NEXT different styles and sizes and try on at home, including making sure he can sit cross legged on the floor ok.

DS has worn M and S since he started wearing grey school trousers / shorts at 7 (he's almost 10 now). He had a school tracksuit before then and the bottoms came from M and S too. Very hard-wearing and comfortable and not expensive.

asda school trousers are great. they are the only ones my ds with asd will tolerate. they wash and dry really well too and last forever!

I second Asda school trousers. They are very soft, wide fitting and come with an elasticated waist up to age 6-7. After that, Matalan do elasticated waists up to age 11.

Oh great! Thanks. Will try M&S and ASDA

I would check his school uniform policy for Reception. Mine wanted kids specifically in joggers, just for the one year. Also, if he is happiest in them anyway the school may be OK with him wearing them so worth checking.

Sainsbury's do elasticated waist ones for smaller sizes.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 20/05/2018 13:13

Asda elasticated ones

marks and spencers skin kind -100% cotton, not horrible polyester. last really well

Thank you very much! Sounds good. We've been practising wearing proper trousers and it's not been a great success so far... But sounds like there are some comfortable options out there!

M&S do a trouser called easy dressing (I think they are online only) with no button and designed to be very comfortable
