Hi, I normally buy marks and spencer school uniform but I find the wine cardigans/ jumpers fade badly and i taught the quality of the rest of it wasn't as good as previous years. Was looking online at next, debehams , sainsburys and john lewis, would ye recommend one shop over another quality wise ? Do they do uniform sales as buying for 3 kids !. Thanks

ASDA every time for us. Very durable and lasts quite a while too. Our jumpers have to be branded so we get that from uniform shop but t shirts, pants, dresses, skirts and pe kit is all ASDA x

Sainsbury's is good and they usually do their 25% off sales around bank holidays.

RainbowFairiesHaveNoPlot · 20/05/2018 11:28

Think there's a TU 25% off sale on next week (was listed on HUKD - I've got 22nd-25th in my mind but that might be wrong... I don't go to Sainsbury's cos it's not local to me)

Kids' school has red uniform which is another one that fades like buggery if you buy it badly... ASDA red polos are actually still red by this point in the term and DD2's wearing a cardigan that's been going a good 3 years and it's slightly faded but still definitely wearable at the moment (won't get another year out of it I don't think but more cos she's shot up lately).

RainbowGlitterFairy · 20/05/2018 12:38

Asda are the best quality, everything I have brought from there has still looked nearly new when my DC have grown out of it.

RainbowFairiesHaveNoPlot · 20/05/2018 14:27

The clothes might look nearly new... but the whiteboard pen stains fuck them over wherever I've bought them from!

MrsHathaway · 20/05/2018 15:58

Agree the supermarkets are at least as good quality as the shops you've listed.

Fwiw I find Tu at Sainsbury's a bit longer/slimmer and George at Asda a bit wider. Morrisons (Nutmeg) are great too. Haven't tried Tesco.

Even (Aldi) PE kit has been fine. VERY useful to have two full sets for when you don't want to have to wash over the weekend.

JellyBellies · 20/05/2018 16:00

I buy Asda. It is brilliant. We don't need logo anything so I buy it all from Asda.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 20/05/2018 16:05

Another vote for Asda trousers skirts tights and socks, we have to get all the rest branded. I order online and pick it up from our local store.

Smiley12 · 20/05/2018 18:39

thanks all, I'll have a look at asda. I have ordered normally clothes from there but I have 1 average and 2 skinny kids and have found at times that the clothes are a bit wide for them. Great to hear that sainsburys are a longer and narrower fit as I struggle with trousers for my son. I'll look out for that sale too.

I love Sainsbury's. The trousers are great for my tall, skinny DS. If they've got 25% off next week, I'll be doing a big shop.

Smiley12 · 20/05/2018 20:59

mummyitsall about you do you buy the woven trousers with longer leg or the skinny fit ?

I buy white shirts for DS and DD, grey school trousers for DS, navy cotton Lycra tights for DD, and undies for both of them from M & S (we live abroad so I stock up at Christmas or in the summer holidays, whenever we visit). Also get some undies for them from Primark although I go there extremely rarely - whereas we always go to an M&S if we're in the U.K. for food and greeting cards!

Navy blue school jumper for DS and cardigan for DD, and white polo shirts for both of them, are best from John Lewis. The woollens don't shrink, fade, or bleed, and the white polo shirts stay super white.

I buy their white sport socks from TK Maxx.

RainbowFairiesHaveNoPlot · 20/05/2018 23:53

I buy the 5 pack polos which are online only (so click and collect) from asda and they've been decent.

speakfriendandenter · 20/05/2018 23:59

We buy a bit from everywhere depending on style. However, this year it's mainly been Morrisons. It's really handy that you can order online for delivery with food shop. DD ripped a couple of cardigans and also can be very overzealous with a whiteboard pen, so it's made getting replacements very easy.

MrsHathaway · 21/05/2018 12:54

speakfriendandenter I could kiss you: I've been looking for charcoal shorts unsuccessfully in various stores for ages, and I'm just finalising my Morrisons grocery shop for tomorrow. Perfect timing!!

speakfriendandenter · 21/05/2018 15:02

Glad to be of service!
They were the only place I could find decent shorts last year that fit nicely!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 21/05/2018 16:18

Asda are fab. I quite like the Lidl polo shirts too tbh. They’ve lasted well all year.

Smiley12 · 23/05/2018 06:16

What are sainburys school jumper/cardigan sizes like? I have a skinny 9 year old boy (currently wearing 9/10 marks jumper), average 7 year old girl and skinny tall 6 year old girl (marks age 5/6). Was going to order 9 for my son as some reviews say jumpers are big .

OP posts:
Chocolateandjam · 23/05/2018 07:06

My tall 9 year old is currently wearing age 9 school jumpers from Sainsbury's. They fit but do not have much growing room in them. I do tumble dry them though so that probably has not helped.

UserInfinityplus1 · 23/05/2018 07:08

I have to buy branded cardigans and PE jet from the uniform shop but for the rest I have found Sainsbury's to be excellent. They have lasted DD1 a couple of years now and the pinafore dresses will be passed down to DD2 when she starts in September

MummyItsallaboutyou · 23/05/2018 07:32

smiley I have usually just bought the normal ones from the store. He has been in age 7. They fit round the waist but were getting too short. Bought age 8 yesterday and they are massive all over. I've now ordered the age 7 long leg to see what they are like.
