30 minute train from Victoria?

If you work near Victoria, where do you live which is:

  • maximum 30 minutes overland train (so max 50 min commute including a walk at each end)
  • has decent primary or private schools
  • has 3 bed houses for under 450K?!

I am looking at various places in Kent mostly near the A2/A20 but would love to hear from you.

Bromley has a Victoria train line connection and the fast trains from Bromley South are around 20 minutes.

But, I think you would be hard pressed to get a 3bed for under 450K, our neighbours 3-4 bed (unofficial loft conversion) is 600K currently.

You may want to look at the station list to see where the trains stops for the slower ones and look at these areas.

Have a look at Caterham/Coulsdon/Old Coulsdon/Chaldon/Redhill areas.

Coulsdon in particular has great primary schools.

You need to take the new Southern timetable into account which comes into force this weekend. Coulsdon/Purley may be pushing it.

Thanks for your replies - lots for me to investigate further!

Liz - I thought the new southern timetable involved a change of times, but not length of journey? Haven't studied it that closely though.

They are changing emphasis between Southern and Thameslink. Some stations will be served more by one than the other, reducing direct services into Victoria /London Bridge for some and thereby increasing journey times. There is no parking at Coulsdon South which is the last station in zone 6 on that line.

Interesting, thank you!

I'm in New Eltham which is within your budget. New Eltham goes into London Bridge/Charing Cross/Cannon Street, but is halfway between Eltham and Bromley which both go into Victoria or you could change at Lewisham.

Some good primaries and my kids are at a lovely private school. Lots of parks. Eltham's high street has a lot of money going into it at the moment and Bromley is good for shopping.

Secondaries seem to be scarcer, but New Eltham is on the edge of Bexley which has grammar schools if you like those.
