Which school would you choose for KS2 just based on the timetable?

Assuming that in School A the phonics lesson changes to comprehension in KS2 (it's just a generic example for that school).

I would be going for the shorter school day - my younger one is so tired by the end of the day that getting anything more than a few pages of Biff, Chip and Wanker out of them after about 4pm is like flogging a dead horse some days! Plus, although mine do a lot of after-school activities (usually in that 4-5pm slot that's prime territory for school days to be expanding towards), it's stuff that we've chosen that we want them to do for enjoyment or to work on areas they benefit from focusing on.

And frigging hell at 8.15 starts! Fuck that lark! (And I'm not some slattern who rolls out of bed two minutes before the school day starts - we're normally leaving the house at that time to drive to school) Our infants starts at 8.45, juniors at 9am and the end of the day is similarly staggered to get people to be able to walk between the two sites in the same way (so infants out first as well - juniors second).

School 2 as the timetable looks more balanced. I think finishing at 1620 is fine for KS2, no different to attending an after school club as much of the extra time seems to be taken up by break time and sport. The day is 55 minutes longer with 40 minutes extra break.

School 2. Timetable for school 1 is dire (but boy bet they have neat handwriting by the end of it).

School 1 is the West London Free School. They say on their school video that they are want to be the best primary school in the country.

They must think that is what parents want. There is another thread on here saying you can't get in for love nor money (well, you do need lots of money).

School B has a very bizarre timetable IMO and I say that as a KS2 teacher. Only 1/2 an hour for computing plus other 1/2 hour lessons for foundation subjects is just odd and the whole day is very bitty/disjointed.

Looking again at Class 2Rs timetable I can't believe it's real. Monday and Tuesday, 2.5hrs of literacy, 1hr of maths and nothing else. Sad

I will go back and look at what school that is and what grading they are on.

Clapham Manor, Lambeth. Outstanding, not been inspected since 2007.

It would depend on which child I was choosing a school for.

DS would have been happy at school 2 because of the amount of sport and PE.

DD would out of those prefer school 1, her school has about the same amount of lesson time as school 2 (8.30 - 3.45 but shorter morning break and lunch and no afternoon break) and fits in a lot more other subjects than either of these options.

1/2 hr lessons only looks odd in a state primary I think. I don’t think it’s particularly unusual in independent.

IME from a teaching and pupil point of view it’s much better than 1.5 hrs in one go.
