Question about Primary School start times.

Does your child's Primary School have any leaway over drop off times?

For example, DD1's school start time will be 9am. Will I have to drop her off as close to 9am as possible or am I likely to be able to leave her 5 or 10 minutes earlier?

Ds school starts at 8-55 but we can drop them off from 8-45 at the playground which is supervised, if they arrive after8-55 they are marked late.

Our gates open at 8.45 for the older kids to be dropped off, at that point a teacher is on duty. But with the infants...YR, Y1, Y2, they expect the parent or carer to stay til the children are taken in when the bell goes at 8.55.

Gates open 8.45, and are supervised by two TAs. Once a child is in the playground, they cannot get out. School starts at 9.00. I think school prefers tohe younger ones dropped off close to 9.00.

But for the first half-term, reception arents/carers are allowed into playground and expected to wait with their DC until the bell goes.

Depends on the school - you need to ask.

Our whistle goes at 8.40 but playground is supervised from 8.30 - no-one is supposed to be at school before then.

If she is a reception child I wouldnt drop and leave as most playgrounds are not what I consider supervised to the max.

If she decides she doesnt want to stay, she could just walk out pretty much unnoticed. i wouldnt take the chance,.

Most schools are available 10 mins before the bell otherwise.

Thanks. I wouldn't consider dropping her early and leaving her in a playground whilst she is in reception. I was simply ponedering about how I will manage drop-offs when I start work again which could be this year or next year.

Meant to say, if they are not lined up ready to go in at bell time they are marked late, even if they arrive at 8.56, so no, no real lee way at all, in infants or junior

yoiu might be able to come to some informal arrangement with another mum with child in the same class? I've sometimes had to rush off for one reason or another ( after gettting dd to the playground) and another mum is happy to make sure she gets through the door when it's time to go in
