OP, I'm not from anywhere near Derby, so unfortunately can't help you. But can I suggest you will get more responses by either putting "Derby" in your thread title, or posting on MN local.

Your council should have a website that details local childcare/holiday clubs etc.

We have to use most of our annual leave separately in order to maximise the cover for School holidays

Some private nursery’s run holiday clubs for primary age (useful if you already have a child that attends the nursery
Our school does a couple of weeks holidays clubs
Our local leisure centres do council run sports camps

There are other options eg mad science, sports camps, private run activity camps, PGL may do day camps etc

Otherwise we have family do a day or two, MIL comes and stays for a few days.
I also swop favours with other parents eg I have my friends kids one day while I am off and she has mine on a day she is off etc.

It’s a juggling act and often it’s not all pinned down until shortly before the holidays but I try and get stuff booked in a day in advance as possible

thanks brie. it's all come of a sudden and before we know it we'll be at the half term. most of the mums are pregnant and so I dont think they will be up for it and only my husband has family who live over 100 miles away. but options to check out see if there are any takers. I don't think it will be as difficult when my youngest is 4 there are more providers that accommodate from 4

Playball will take children of that age - do you have that in Derby?

I'm more based over the county borders - but the two I see around here are Major Oak, and HA4k (translates into Holiday Activities 4 Kids out of text speak but the web address is the abbreviated one) - don't know if they help but they're more out Notts direction. Don't even know if our term dates match up this time around or not.

Talk to people at the school gate. Local leisure centres often do them, any companies that run after school sports or childcare, or kids' activities like dancing, drama or football. Outward bound places (eg mine are going to the same place as their school residential), trampoline parks, specialist providers. The best ones sometimes don't have to advertise much.

Trickiest are under 5s, who are often too little for holiday camps. I'd try local nurseries for them and consider nursery rather than preschool next year if they're not starting school, so they can go year round.

As Brie says, it's a juggling act but it usually comes together at the end. I just don't get to take much time off with DH.
