Infant to junior, do you reapply?

Hi,

This is all a long way off but the school is like for my children is out of catchment plus only an infant school. My question is, if they managed to get in, do you then go through the whole palava again when they are 7? I’m only concerned as I think I’d only have a chance via in year admissions, but you are not guaranteed a place at their junior school later on so another loads of hassle!

Yes you need to reapply. It only takes a few minutes.

Yes. In our case we had moved but knew we had to stay within 2 miles if we didn't want her to change schools (Or at least classmates/friendship groups). Was fine, only put down the juniors as we were reassured it was v unlikely for them to not have a place. As it is theres 28 in her class.

Not in my area, DS is at an Infants and will automatically go up to the Juniors (separate school, different head etc).

Not in my area. They just automatically go up into the juniors.

Thank you Rathkelter. It only just occurred to me that I may need to do this twice....

In our area, linked Infant and Junior schools - you reapply.
All through primary - no reapplication for Yr3

We had to re-apply but the junior school had priority admission for children attending the linked infant was just the case of filling out a form.

We have to reapply - the admissions criteria aren't as straightforward as if you're in the infants you're top of the list... out school is one of the exceptions in the LEA where it's catchment children above out of catchment children who are at the infants.

We talked to the head about it who said in previous years out of catchment parents sometimes had to go to appeal but generally had got in if they wanted to get in and the admission numbers bear this out (plus for juniors infant class size rules don't affect appeals) so figured the risk was worth taking as the infants is bloody superb. I have one more out of catchment plan B option if we don't get in or I'll home educate while we sit on waiting lists if I have to - no way are they going back to the local school (which we did give a try to be fair) as it's shit.

Not at the school mine went to.

At our school you just have to sign and return a letter, there’s no suggestion you might not get in. In fact the junior classes are slightly larger so some extra children join from other schools as well.
