Hi everyone,

No idea how I do this as I’ve only joined today with the biggest bee in my bonnet!! My daughters school have introduced a new process where we are required to leave our children at the main gate to make there own way to the class!!! I would like to add there is a teacher at the gate and a few on the journey to help them find there way but this feels me with dread that I’m expected to leave my little one who’s just turnt 5 to make her own way to class! Am I being a nutter? Would you let you child? Does your school do the same? Who do I go to to complain? I’ve emailed the head, deputy, assistant and whole safe guarding team who aren’t interested and have pretty much told me I have no choice! The education authority have told me this is the schools discretion and to be completely frank I’m on the verge of a major melt down!

Sorry for the longest post and thank you if you have any advice X

I don't see the problem at all, sorry. If there's a teacher on the gate, how are they going to come back out again?

Stand on the road and watch her go in then. The set up sounds exactly the same as my daughter's school and they all cope fine. You do sound a bit crazy about this.

Another one who's always had to drop the kids at the gate. As long as there is a teacher there then they shouldn't be able to get back out. Surely much easier to keep track of the kids with minimal parents on the yard? Also stops the teachers having to answer a million unnecessary questions at drop off - we can make appointments fairly easily and always talk to someone in an emergency of course.

This change happened at the primary mine attendee and caused uproar when it was announced many feeling like you op.

However in reality the childre managed fine ds commented that the lessons now start on time as there isnt parent there anymore. It worked very well

Pink I am astounded that 4 and 5 years olds are allowed to walk home alone Shock

Highhorse1981 · 18/04/2018 17:30

Are you in Kent? TW?

Same here.
It was emotional watching her go in alone but not something o think is “wrong”. In fact a positive step forward

Faire bear in mind this is Scotland so in the Winter months it’s dark or at least dusk.

I did it myself as a child.

I have noticed from MN things seem rather more regulated in England.

Highhorse1981 · 18/04/2018 17:31

Ah your situation very different to mine

Ours is straight off playground, away from road

dementedpixie · 18/04/2018 18:16

I'm in Scotland and the 4 and 5 year olds don't walk home alone, they are let out to an adult. We aren't allowed in the playground or the classes and have to speak to the office if we want to speak to a teacher/head teacher

I don't see the issue here, there's a teacher at the gate stopping kids from coming back out?
Honestly think the email to the world and it's mother was all a bit dramatic.

Lifechallenges · 27/04/2018 15:33

I think its quite normal. Save a lot of hassle for staff and 4/5 years olds can walk 50-100 yards without issue. They do it al day when school is open during the day??!?! Miles better that the cram of parents and carers at the doors

KingLooieCatz · 27/04/2018 16:14

Ds previous school banned parents from taking kids into the classroom as some children found the noise and busy-ness really stressful, so they were upset before the day started. It was fine.
