SATs workbooks and prep

DS2 will be going into yr6 in Sept. We have obviously been through SATs before with DS1 but he is naturally more confident in his ability and not easily distrated and just did what he had to because getting good marks was important to him.

DS2 is fabulous but his strengths lie in other areas (music and arts really). He often suffers with a crisis of confidence and can often look at the simplest of things and decide he cannot do it and get into a real tizz. He also needs to have things explained a few times to get it. He gets very down sometimes thinking he isn't smart etc when a lot of it is down to his confidence etc, though he is for example still learning his timetables in yr5 but has just turned a corner with this due to some great interventions working on his confidence.

In a bid to get him to a good place for his SATs i.e. not panciking and assuming he cannot do it and setting him with a good set of skills for secondary school he has agreed to 10-15 mins each school day working towards his SATs. I wonder if anyone has any good suggestions, DS1 only had a couple of 'revision' books but DS2 says he would prefer workbooks as he often gets things easier that way. Really want him to not feel stressed when he sees the papers and empower him to be the best that he can. Any other tips also welcome outside of sit down and do a worksheet.

If he's struggling with basics I'd think you'd be better off doing 5 minutes a day of times tables or mental maths.
Most schools do SATS practice to death in Y6, so I really wouldn't make him do any more workbooks/revision than he needs to.

This one is not sats practice, but covers ks2 maths in separate books in each topic. Great to get all the basics.(my ds has done all, but you can pick and choose according to weakness.) Great workbook.

Irvine, can you tell me more about these books? There is no preview as far as I can see, so I have no idea what they talk about and whether we could benefit from them.

Amazon have a "look inside"

Schofield and Sims are a reliable publisher-their books are useful, informative and good value!

On my link, if you click each book, it takes you to individual book page and it has pdf file of contents, practice, progress test and introductions.

Or you can have a look inside with this amazon link.

Oh, that was cross posted! Thanks, spaniel.

Second Spaniel, we have never been disappointed by any of their workbooks.

Thanks. Will look at them. I didn't know them at all ;)

Placed the order for the taster pack (which I wasn't supposed to be able to order, but here we are...).

They do look interesting and are quite short. Thanks for the tip.
