Just had a talk with dd teacher. She is very pleased with dd over all. Their was just one thing. DD lack of writting, it's not that she can't write infact her teacher is very happy with the writting it just the lack of it.
I was told she just switchs off then it comes to writting tasks and does have little writting. I know she not keen on writting but the problem is the teacher feels she is not been able to see dd real understanding of her class work, and that she is been held back because of the lack of evidence of understanding in her written work. Which the teacher feels is ashame as "she is a very bright girl and I don't want her to get bored" (as said by the teacher).
Is there any was I may be able to help enjoy writting more and therefore be less of a task for at school.

What year is she in Lexcat? Can you find writing stuff for her to do at home. I get mine to write shopping lists for me, or we play restaurants at meal times and they do menus and take orders in a notebook. If she likes reading you could get her to write little reviews of books she has read and maybe give her an incentive like a small reward once she has completed a certain number.
Is there any reason that you can see for her dislike of writing? Some children find it tiring because of poor motor control and different kinds of pens can help - DD1 who has had real fine motor control problems finds a pen from WH Smith, called the Yoropen, has helped her writing improve.

She's y1 ,that the funny thing her handwriting is that of an Y2 child. NO lack of fine motor skills excellent at hamma, can knit and just start a cross stitch the other day. I have seen her once or twice really write quite fast with no problem and writting was still very good. But most of the time it is a battle to get even a few words on the paper.
She loves reading have tried book reviews she didn't even try, but will try again with the reward idea .
Thanks for that.

my dd is 5, she doesn't have a great writing ability and I feel the teacher gets frustrated with my dd, because she doesn't do tasks which involve writing well.

atm, I sit with dd every night and get her to tell me five words, or a sentence she wants to write, I write it, she copies, she also has drawing paper and pens and every day she draws and writes a little about the picture, or puts a name beside it, not always hers...

I still feel dd is young and will get there in the end, I encourage her to write, letters but that is hard work!

Well, you know if she is bright part of the reason she doesn't want to write is because it slows her down - they are thinking much faster than they can write and it is frustrating not to be able to express on the page everything that is going on in their head - so they can't be bothered to try. I have a perfectionist DD who is a bit like this. Year One is still very, very young - maybe the teacher is pushing her a bit hard?

Thank-you rosa I think you have hit the nail on the head, but I still have the problem of how to help her enjoy her writting. Or at least feel happier about doing any writting.
