Dd will start reception this September. She will be just over 4. I'm not sure yet whether to give her a packed lunch or go for school meals. They're not too bad, but dd would choose her own and there's not much supervision - I have visions of her choosing chips every day! Also, she can't use a knife properly yet. What are your experiences? Which did you go for?

Our menu is on the LEA website-it is on a three week cycle and chips appear once in that 3 weeks. I would be really surprised if any primary school offered them much more than this.

My school dinners come from a school in the next town as we do't have a kitchen.dds junior-school-to-be has its own kitchen which I'm assuming will be a lot better

my dd loves her school dinners and they are healthy, she has no choice but having been raised on proper food I think she would make a good choice if it was on offer.

In principle I would like to make delicious gorgeous lunch boxes every day, especially as school meals are a bit lacking, but, it always ends up being cheese sandwich/ham sandwich etc. We do hot meals 3 times a week now, depending on the menu which I always check at the beginning of term. They only have chips on friday, thursdays are usually roasts. I love the nights that I don't have to make them up!
