Lyme Disease at school

One of the primary schools we're thinking of sending our little one to has had recent cases of tick bites and lyme disease (though they're not confirming whether this happened from the tick bites they got at school).

The school backs onto a forest, so I suppose ticks will be more common, and they are very aware of this by telling parents to check children every day.

I feel uneasy as I've always been worried about lyme disease, however I'm not sure if I'm being too anxious in this case and whether other parents would worry about this enough to not send their child there?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Unless you keep out of all areas with deer etc there is a risk. One case is nothing to be overly concerned about.

Lymes is all over Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset.
Just take sensible precautions

as they do around Lyme in Connecticut

Dd got a tic bite at 2yo in north devon. And i remember someone saying kids had gotten bitten at a NT property local to us.
My concern would be that you can get bitten and not get the bullseye but have lyme. And supposedly its pretty hard to treat. The AB they give adults they cant give to kids. They get amoxicillin i think.
Since getting bitten dd got a rash, but not a bullseye, looked more like CP on the back etc. Then the next year repeated ear infections (never had one before) and basically hasnt been well since. And her behaviour goes up and down.
It's probably nothing to do with the tic bite but i wonder. You can also get other infections from tics like glandular fever and cat scratch fever i think.
If it's your local primary you may be in the area and could pick one up elsewhere. Or your pets could bring one in.

Ticks have ALWAYS been in the UK
Sheep ticks
Deer ticks
Dog ticks
Cat ticks
Human Ticks
What is comparatively new is that deer ticks have become infected with Lymes disease
because HUMANS brought it back from the USA around 20 years ago

Thanks for your replies, perhaps I'm being over cautious with this as it sounds like ticks are everywhere ...
