What percent attendance is 5 days off school so far

I know i could sit with a calendar and work out how many days they've been in to work it out but wondered if anyone might know off hand what 5 days off would work out as, as a percentage. When do they start chasing it up? It's 3 separate bouts of illness which probably looks bad!

We just got a warning letter for 5 days saying it was below 95% - both my kids have had previous years with 100% attendance. I was gutted. It could be right I guess - 23 weeks so far in this school year which is 115 school days so 5 days would be 5.75% - meaning attendance would be at 94%? Thing is he had a sick bug that lasted 3 days and a virus that lasted 2 days - if I'd sent him in with either then half the class would have gone down (in fact the parent who sent their puking child in did send half the class down by ignoring the 48 hour rule).

Roughly 24 weeks so far, so around 96%

Thank you.

Tiger, what did the warning letter say, and was it from the school or the local authority? I'm expecting one and am stupidly worried.

My DC has had a couple of bouts of illness, certainly more than five days in total this year. I don't see how I can stop them getting ill. I'm certainly not sending a very sick child to school.

If it's anything like my school, they have it as missed sessions. Two sessions in a day (morning and then afternoon) so 5 full days off would be 10 missed sessions at my school. Soon adds up to below adverage attendance.

HeidioftheAlps · 16/03/2018 13:54

That wouldn't change the percentage though

190 days in a full school year, we're over half way so 5 days will be just under 5%. Some schools calculate each term separately, though.

@crackingeggs - it was local authority & I felt awful! However - rang the lovely school receptionist &said I’m concerned, partly because I don’t want it to negatively affect the school, but also because I wasn’t sure it was right (our school has come from special measures to good Ofsted in the last few years) & she said not to worry. I don’t think the genuine - it was bad luck they were ill twice this winter - kids are the ones they’re worrying about!

HeidioftheAlps · 18/03/2018 13:02

Thanks. Hopefully she won't have any more time off. If i do get a letter I'll just treat it as a formality when you go below a certain percentage and won't take it personally.

Yes, just take the letter as a formality if and when it's sent.

Tbh, as a teacher the kids who are legitimately sick aren't usually a worry. It's always the ones who desperately need to be in school due to being behind that get taken out on holidays etc for days on end!
