Egyptian History topic- Iris for Isis

Is this a thing? My daughter reports that Horus married his sister Iris.

I was pretty certain it was Isis. No she tells me Iris. Her brother went to the same school six years ago and confirms that is what he was told too.

Am I wrong to think giving the kids the wrong information is, well wrong. Or is it okay to change the name because of the current climate and it would be really confusing for the kids (9-10 years).

It doesn’t sit right with me as my son is about to turn 16.

No it's not all right to change the name. The god is Isis not Iris

As both Horus and Isis are both westernised versions of the original Egyptian, how can anyone say either is right or wrong?

Kokeshi123 · 12/03/2018 06:07

Isis is the accepted westernized version of the original Egyptian, so it is completely fine to say that Isis is right and Iris is wrong!

I would ask the teachers, though, just to check that both kids did not mishear or confuse the name!

I'm going to ask the teacher on Wednesday when I see her next.

Iris was an Ancient Greek goddess. She carried messages on her rainbow. Sounds like someone’s got confused at the school.

Let's use Eset or Aset if you've a problem with the Greek translation of her name Ifailed (means throne) all of these are acceptable whereas Iris is a totally different deity.
