Competitive mothers....... any thoughts?

One of my best friends has a dd in my ds's class (yr 1) and they are good friends and we often share childcare and have known each other a long time.

But is she really really competitive or just really proud of what her daughter achieves? I just wish she'd stop showing off about everything whether it's play dates or parties or sleepovers or awards at school.... 'Yes your daughter is clearly the most popular most accomplished most clever and fabulous child that was ever born - will that do?'

I'm so fed up with it. Despite all this I really really like and value her! Anyone else have this dilemma?

Thats my point - the people i'm bragging to don't know that i'm doing it to make my dd feel better about herself do they.

And meant hot brick

LOL - I bumped into our local competitive grandmother today. She asked if DD2 was talking yet (no). Then proceeded to show off about how slowly her grand-daughter learned to talk!!

Some people just need to have the upper hand. It is probably insecurity, or lack of other things to talk about. Or genuine love and pride, which shouldn't be entirely despised!

Ignore, or chuckle, but try not to let it spoil a friendship.

Ah but do yo9u do it constantly like my mate did?

we had children DDs 5 weeks apart and EVERY single thing was a competition

If my DD sat up unaided before hers, well, hers slept through before mine

if mine crawled first, HERS can do cartwheels, but only if nobody is watching obv etcetc

I can usually tlel when someone is trying to boost their LOs confidence as I do it myself sometimes

I think having Mr T as a mother your children must have very high self esteem. But being on the run from the law must be tough.
