Pembridge Hall 2018

Hello wise mums,
my daughter has a place at Pembridge Hall school in Notting Hill for a september 2018 entry in reception.
I haven't seen the school mentioned in recent discussions so was wondering if anyone could provide an updated feedback.
I am mainly drawn to their excellent exit results and numerous clubs. I just wish they had an outdoor space...are the parents as over the top as some people say they are? I met two mums and they were very sweet ladies. I found the girls extremely smart, polite and confident when we toured the school. I am also told there is not much tutoring involved (which I liked). Would love to hear from current or former parents. Thank you

I second the suggestion to stick with Chepstow.
There is no point moving because of historic reputations. Stick to what you know, where your DD is happy and knows the teachers.
It is very unlikely she'll end up somewhere different at 11+ from that move. Keep her where she is known.

EglantineP · 28/03/2018 17:07

Keep your dd where she is if she's happy!

Livelovelife2 · 28/03/2018 19:07

Whatto what have you decided...deadline was today??

Whatto · 28/03/2018 19:12

Thank you all for such useful advice. After going round in circles all night I decided to let DD stay in Chepstow House. She is so happy there and the school is so good. I agree braindrain17, Mrs. Barr is capable and doing wonders with CH. Thank you to you guys for also pointing out that DD's happiness comes first. I think that other schools around the area are catching up if not getting better than PH. CH has plenty of outside space, a strong respected head, solid academic focus and very happy children. The exit results and the outstanding ofsted report speak volumes. I guess I got confused because of PH's historical reputation. I am so glad and relieved I didn't disrupt DD's happy existence. She skips to school every morning. I am sure PH is a good school but CH is the best one for my DD

Livelovelife2 · 28/03/2018 20:35

whatto good for you... I believe you made the right choice!

braindrain17 you should work as a school guidance/counselor 😉

Whatto · 28/03/2018 21:31

🙂 Feel really light and happy after deciding that DD stays in CH. Don't know about school guidance counsellor, ha ha. It was really tough making this decision. I'm sure I've got a few grey hairs staying up and thinking about the schools. Will sleep peacefully tonight. 😴

Mishappening · 28/03/2018 22:09

And so will your DD.

braindrain17 · 28/03/2018 23:27

Congrats on making the choice and more importantly feeling good about it! I've been agonising with my own choices (including one for my youngest at the moment). To be honest though, I think we should consider ourselves lucky that there are so many good schools in the area that at the end of the day what undoubtedly feels like a "life changing" decision or one that gives you "grey hair" hopefully doesn't weigh on future schooling options that heavily.

One thing is for sure, though, I also do believe for my DD Chepstow is absolutely the right choice! Wink

braindrain17 · 28/03/2018 23:28

And apologies to those interested in PH for hijacking the thread!

Livelovelife2 · 28/03/2018 23:37

Guys having said that PH still a great school where girls thrive and are happy. It’s ethos and foundations are great and it’s a great choice for some parents.
In essence Wetherby, Chepstow and pembridge are all Alpha plus group and it’s the same curriculum so it just a matter of co-ed versus single sex.

Good luck to all ☺️

braindrain17 · 29/03/2018 00:34

Agree, all great schools. And same for St Anthony's from what I hear.

TKB2015 · 01/04/2018 20:10

Oh wow!!! I had no idea this thread had generated so much discussion. It all came after the deadline to accept the offer it seems so I figured I would not get more feedback.
I ended up turning down the offer from PH mainly for 2 reasons:

  • the outdoor space
  • the whole Bute obsession. I feel like the 4+ assessments were already too much for me and knowing myself I would have felt the need to join in even though I think the 11+ results are already very good. I don't want to keep chasing a unicorn.
As for the rest of the points that were brought up, I actually liked the head when we met him. I thought his answers to our questions were clear and concise, but it is worrisome that he seems not to pay more attention to what is going on at his school. Instead I will be sending my girls to another girls' school in Hampstead. I like the head, ethos and this year's results are very good. Hopefully it is the right decision. Many thanks to all of you for your input. I really appreciate it Halo

Hi ladies - I received an email saying that my DD has been registered at Pembridge Hall and that a letter will follow in the post. This was a few weeks after I submitted the form. Forgive my ignorance, but what does that mean? That she's in, or just that they've received the registration form and fee?

Livelovelife2 · 05/04/2018 19:19

I believe it means they acknowledged your registration and they will send an confirmation by post. It might say wait list or acceptance. But not sure Hmm

elbelle19 · 06/04/2018 12:25

Livelovelife2, I agree - I think it means that too. I just thought it was strange that they emailed me three or so weeks later - if it's a rejection, I don't need an e-mail plus letter!

BEC111 · 08/02/2019 18:47

We are currently considering Pembridge Hall for our daughter, joining in Sept 2019. I like the school, it’s facillities and both the head / deputy head. However, I have a slight concern about the atmosphere of a (large) all girls school - ultimately I want my daughter to be happy. I would love to hear from any current parents at the school or the views of any others.
Our alternative would be a co-ed school that appears to be a very happy place, but it is more difficult for the school run and perhaps not so strong academically. Thank you!

Thank you for the feedback, it certainly sounds like you had a different experience to the school on your visit. Which other schools are you considering?
I would love to hear from any current / other prospective parents of Pembridge Hall
