Math&English tuition for 4yrs old. Necessary?

May I have some advice from experienced mums please??

DD1 was born in the UK but we moved to France when she was 3( she attented local French school.). We recently came back to London and she started attending a local school(reception).
Although she can speak English it’s not as good as other children at her age - she never learnt English before.
Both of DH and I are non-native English speakers.

We weren’t worried about her English( actually we were more concerned about keeping her other languages) as we thought she’d pick it up at school, however, yesterday, I was stopped by a sales person from a leaning centre( tutoring kids from 4yrs old using computer) and she told me DD1 needed language support as her English was behind.
I booked a trial lesson, but I’m wobdering if it’s really necessary at this stage??

And I’m not sure if it’s efficient to start the tuition when she doesn’t understand English enough to keep up with the lesdons?

Has anyone had similar experience???

Thank you very much!

Don't lose sleep over writing at the age of 4 either. The English system is pretty insistent on that and other stuff that children aren't ready for but being able to write a sentence that early doesn't mean anything. Look at the PISA study - 15yo in developed countries get regularly tested so that education levels between countries can be compared. The best countries for education in the world are the ones that don't bother with things like writing till later and English children get outperformed despite supposedly getting a 2-3 year head start.

JoJoSM2,

Thank you again!
You helped me a lot!!!

I recenlty had a parents evening and found out that they aim to make all reception kids to be able to read/write by June.
( I read a book about phonics and started home tutoring. But DD’s more into art stuff, which I want her to continue.)
And, I spoke with some of DD’sclassmates’ mums who said their kids were very advanced & did a lot of home studying since they were small.
All these things gave me a big pressure😅

I checked PISA study as well. Very interesting!!
( Glad to see Japan is doing well😄😄)

Thank you so much!
( and I’ve learnt a new English expression ‘to lose sleep over’ 😁)
